So let me start by saying when this place opened and started getting popular. I loved it, the prices were (are) great, and the food was great. That being said over the last 3 months I have found myself going there less and less. I originally switched to going here as my normal spot because the Mexican restaurant in my town raised its prices and lowered it quality as well as introducing live music. I don't generally have a problem with live music but I tend to go out to eat socially rather than just for the food. So when they started having the live music when it wasn't supposed to be there I had to find a new spot. All of that being said I found this place great when I started going , unfortunately this all started to change about a year or so ago when they started having live music as well ( same singer as the other restaurant and playing country music, mind you this is a Mexican restaurant). The food has started consistently coming out cool or just warm, then it started coming out with less flavor or weird choices for toppings (such as bagged shredded cheese on chicken). Tonight was the probably the last time that we will frequent this restaurant for a few reasons, but mainly because the overall quality has went down. The wait staff are friendly if a little slow to get anything done. I've routinely ran out of whatever I am drinking while the restaurant is a quarter or less full and had to stop waitresses to get more. Tonight while ordering something I have ordered several times ( combination 4 which is two tacos 1 enchilada and rice) I was told that I can't have soft tortillas instead of crunchy even though the menu doesn't specify either. I was then told that the reason is to keep cost down. I wouldn't normally have a problem with this except that I have done it before with no problems and this is the only place on the entire you can order tacos in a meal instead of just ordering them individually. Now the waitress was polite about even though I was being a little grumpy so good on her. I ordered a bowl of cheese it was luke warm and clumpy and it was mostly flavorless. It was extremely salty. The chips were super greasy and tasted like 3 day old popcorn. The rice was excellent. My meal was ok, like I said I am not a big fan of crunchy tacos. My wife's meal was bland and she told me that the re fried beans tasted burnt and watery. The friend that I brought with me didn't even finish his meal. If you go when they are super busy the wait staff is even slower which is to be expected but usually the kitchen is fast and the food is hot. So go at your own risk , you may have a better experience than me , you may not be as picky as me , you may value convenience over experience and that is fair but don't say you...
Read moreLos Cocos is a surprisingly large comfortable restaurant that occupies the entire corner on the south side of W. Ferry St. (Hwy 20) and S. Commerce St. in Salina. You will see it on your right as you come in to town from Pryor. The food is fabulous and the service matches. The restaurant has a large menu, of Mexican food, but also offers pizza, burgers and a full bar. Food and beverages to please everyone. The perfect place to stop, coming or going to the lake.
I didn’t expect to find this quality of food and service in small town Salina. Kaitlyn delivered chips and salsa. I asked if there was a spicy salsa and she started naming everything they had. I asked for a small sample of everything. That is what I got. They have a great variety. All were very good; the hotter versions were my favorite. Check the picture. My wife and I both got the Combo Dinner: Beef Taco, Beef Enchilada, Pork Tamale, Beans and Rice. As a sauce option for the tamale Los Cocos has an excellent authentic red sauce. A true flavorful red chili mole. It is delicious and perfect on the tamale. Well-seasoned ground beef filled the enchilada and the crispy taco. Tasty beans and rice on the side. Los Cocos was a surprise that exceeded expectations!

Read moreThe atmosphere was great and the service from Chainie was excellent as well as the bus boy. I was just very disappointed with the lack of flavor and seasoning in the food. I paid 3.99 for a medium queso that was literally a small bowl of watered down white cheese. There is no reason it should be runny like a toddlers nose. The salsa was flavorless at best. I combined the two just to get some flavor and it was a wash. The chips were great though. Ordered the enchilada dinner, one chicken and one ground beef.... no seasonings, devoid of all flavor and topped with watery queso. The rice was delicious but the beans were watery as well. Very disappointing. The only reason I rated this a 3 is because of Chainie and the bus boy, the rice and chips. Someone needs to get their Abuela in the kitchen to...
