I should start by saying the food is very good. However, I now understand why they have a 4.9 and it’s solely due to their internal practice. I’ve had the same server several times now and have witnessed their method. They smile and ask you several times throughout your meal how they are doing. At the end when you go to pay, they throw a QR code in your face and flat out ask you to leave a good review. I think most people in a situation like this do. I’d like to detail each of the Google criteria. 1) The food: it’s all good quality and from good recipes. It’s really expensive for very tiny portions. I’m no cheapskate. I’ll spend handsomely on really amazing food experiences and be completely unbothered by it. These are simple, large batch curries and proteins all pre-made in large quantities. All of the entrees are about 1/3 more than they should be. When it comes to naan bread; there is a menu price and you can try and order what you want, but they do not let you. They make it really complicated. They ask how many pieces to a person you want and it’s not clear how they’re planning to charge for this. 2) Service: They are always friendly. That’s where the hospitality ends. They smile at you, but you have to do all the work. In between courses they expect you to pass plates, service pieces, dishes, and utensils to them, and they collect it right there with a rolling cart and a dirty dish bin. It is not a good feeling to have to set your own table and then clear it. The food comes out fast, that’s true, but it also comes out on the same cart they used to clear dirty dishes. Are they sanitizing that cart in between tasks? From the way they rush you in and out, my guess would be no. Nonetheless, the visual isn’t a good look. Everything is very rushed. When you sit down for a meal that you are paying for, dinner should be at your pace. They don’t allow that. They really push you to get through appetizers and then your dinner. After dinner is over, they want to collect dishes before you’ve even paid and they want you to hand them everything like you’re at summer camp. You do all of the work. It’s crazy. Again I should preface they’re very friendly through this whole process, but it doesn’t feel hospitable. It feels like we want you in and out and we want you all paid up and that is our only interest. When dinner is over it’s appropriate if wait staff politely comes to each person and asks if they are done. If so, they may collect said persons dishes. However, if a party wants to sit and linger and talk like we did for my father-in-law’s birthday, they are not interested in that and it’s clear they want to flip your table. I’ve now been here five times and it’s always the same procedure. It doesn’t make for a good experience. During service, they’re continually setting you up for the review that they are going to ask you for at the end of the meal. It is really so aggressive and tacky how they shove this QR code in your face. Again now that I’ve been here several times I’ve realized they have a very distinct process. Maybe their process won’t bother most people, but it really bothers me. 3) Atmosphere: the restaurant reminds me of something from Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas. It’s dark and dingy. It looks like they’ve not put a dime into the interior since it very first opened. The bathrooms are disgusting. Last nights venture there was better than the first four times I’ve been, so I’m assuming someone must’ve made a complaint about it or the health department came because it looks like they bothered to clean them. They need to be completely remodeled. The men’s bathroom in general smells like sunbaked urine. Instead of giving it a thorough clean they just put air freshener up. That is not the solution. The solution is to properly and thoroughly clean every single surface every single day. Clean, clean, clean. That should be the mantra of this restaurant because everything needs a deep clean. I wouldn’t come back to this restaurant, but my mother-in-law for some reason really likes this place, so...

Read moreAh, Mumbai House in Salt Lake City, where the curries are as spicy as the gossip in a Bollywood movie and the naan is fluffier than a cloud in the Himalayas. My dining experience there was nothing short of an epic adventure, complete with mouth-watering flavors and a dash of hilarity.
Walking in, I was greeted by the aromatic symphony of spices that instantly transported me to the bustling streets of Mumbai. The decor was charming, blending modern comfort with a touch of Indian elegance. I took a seat, eagerly anticipating the culinary journey ahead.
I started with the samosas, which were so crispy and golden that I briefly considered asking for their skincare routine. They were filled with a deliciously seasoned potato mixture that had me doing a little happy dance in my chair. My dining companion thought I was choking and nearly called for the waiter, but no, I was just overcome by samosa-induced joy.
Next up was the chicken tikka masala, a dish so rich and flavorful it could probably afford to pay off my student loans. The tender chicken chunks were swimming in a creamy, tomato-based sauce that was the perfect balance of spicy and sweet. I wanted to dive into that bowl and live there forever.
The garlic naan was another highlight, arriving at the table warm and buttery, with just the right amount of char. I used it to mop up every last bit of sauce, because wasting food this good should be a crime. The waiter caught me licking my fingers and gave me a knowing nod of approval. Clearly, I was doing it right.
For dessert, I went with the gulab jamun, those syrup-soaked dumplings of delight. They were so sweet and decadent that I felt like I was committing a sin with each bite. By the time I finished, I was ready to roll myself out of the restaurant.
All in all, Mumbai House offers an incredible dining experience that combines fantastic food with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Just be prepared to leave with a smile on your face, a full belly, and a mild case of...
