We ordered a custom cake from Betty Jane’s Bakeshoppe for my daughter’s birthday, and the process started off great. Amanda was helpful and kind, and the cake itself was beautiful—you could tell a lot of care and creativity went into it.
Unfortunately, the fondant rainbow element broke. It snapped right where the support ended, which felt like a flaw in how it was built. The rest of the cake was fine and tasted great, but the whole party was rainbow and unicorn themed, so it was disappointing to lose the rainbow decorative feature before the celebration even started.
When I picked it up, the person who handed it to me joked not to go fast over speed bumps (which I didn’t), but nothing about the risk or fragility of the design was mentioned during planning. If I had known it was such a delicate structure—especially for a four-year-old’s party—I would have asked for guidance on a better design. They also mentioned at pickup that this was the first time he’d done a full rainbow like that. I just wish someone had flagged that it might not hold up well, so we could’ve adjusted the design or reinforced it better.
At $270, I expected more durability, especially for a key decorative element. I really appreciate the talent and flavor, but I’d recommend future clients talk in detail about what designs are realistic and well-supported, especially for kids’ cakes where excitement and movement are...
Read moreI cannot recommend this bakery at all. They completely dropped the ball on a cake that was ordered a week prior to an event. The Cake was ordered on Saturday 3/23 to be picked up on 3/30. It was a simple cake 1/4 sheet nothing super fancy, I Spoke with Amanda and baker. Explained this was a birthday cake for my boss. They drew out the cake, told me when to come pick up everything was set except for some final wording that needed to go on cake I was going to email that info. They never asked me for a deposit or to pay which I gladly would have done. They never gave me a deadline to finalize order AND they never gave a courtesy call to confirm details of cake. Had I not emailed on Wednesday checking in I would not have known that they were not making this cake! They said they couldn’t make it. I was now in a pickle trying to figure out what to do! What absolute horrible customer service!!! If you have an event I would think twice before trusting them to make a cake for you! I just will not be recommending this place to anyone! Luckily it’s just cake and I was able to find another lovely place to accommodate...
Read moreWedding Cake Disaster! The 4 tiered cake we ordered for our wedding arrived 15 minutes before ceremony after all the guests had arrived. We had fresh flowers that were suppose to cascade down the cake which gave it its simplistic elegance. Due to the late arrival there was not enough time to put the flowers on which left a bare white cake. It was ugly and an embarrassment! An hour into the reception we were informed that the cake was falling over so we needed to do cake early because it was toppling over. We paid thousands of dollars to have an leaning, plain and boring white cake. Thank god we ordered the grooms cake from another company which ended up arriving early and was decorated beautifully or it could have been worse. Weddings are stressful enough....This caused so much undue stress and worry. We were trying to get ready with the bridesmaids and the cake not being there took away from the enjoyment we should have had and was replaced with anxiety. We called numerous times, texted, left emails and voicemails on the wedding day and received no response....
