First let me say, I wanted desperately to give this place 5 stars but I simply cannot do that in good conscience.
My reason is this; while I have enjoyed the food and the people here, the atmosphere leaves much to be desired.
There is a San Antonio ordinance that prohibits dogs into the indoor areas of restaurants. While it is legal to allow dogs into an outdoor area if the restaurant has a "city permit", Service dogs ONLY are allowed inside restaurants.
My problem is they allow ANYONE with a dog to go in unchallenged!
There were two people inside the restaurant with dogs that were clearly NOT SERVICE DOGS! Emotional support dogs ARE NOT service dogs! Please fact check me on that.
According to the Americans With Disabilities Act, it is not permissable to ask what a person's disability is...it IS however permissable to ask; Is that a service animal? What tasks is the animal trained to perform?
Problem: Bringing a non-service animal into a restaurant is illegal! It's unsanitary (rationale: dogs shed and they may even slobber. Dogs shake themselves distributing hair, dander and saliva wherever it falls. Maybe in your food or drink) It is blatantly disrespectful in support of item 2. It is obtuse...in support of items 1 through 3. It can be dangerous! (See Message to Owner on dog allergies below)
WAKE UP!! And please don't respond with some ridiculous, canned, nonsense in defense. There is no defense, the law is the law.
These idiots who bring their NON-SERVICE dogs into restaurants or grocery stores are banking on no one challenging them. And they are breaking the law!
Message to the owner: While you might be thinking it would be disrespectful to challenge a dog owner in your restaurant...what does that say about respecting your customers who are not stupid enough to bring a non-service dog into a restaurant and simply want to experience your wonderful food and world class service...in a sanitary environment?
What about those of us who are allergic to dogs?! Allergies to animals can trigger asthma attacks which can lead to death in some cases. Do you really want that king of liability?
Please don't misunderstand, I love dogs and I like this restaurant, but I feel disrespected by anyone who would allow a non-service animal into a restaurant. I/we have a moral, ethical and legal right to be protected from that kind of self-serving stupidity.
I know no one wants to challenge someone for fear they might get it wrong. But that's why service animals wear that service vest...to make people aware they are service animals. If no vest...probably not a service animal and that MUST be challenged.
While perhaps uncomfortable, it is a duty and responsibility of restaurant and grocery store managers and owners to protect their patrons...LOOK IT UP...then tell me how stupid I am.
Other than this ridiculous practice, I love this place. And I want them to succeed. NOONE HAS BETTER TUNA SALAD! But it doesn't matter how good the food is, if I have worry about...

Read moreTo be honest with you, this place used to be my go-to. It was close to where I lived and I work from home, so taking random trips there throughout the week were common. Unfortunately a few small problems kind of compounded on themselves so I don't find myself returning for the time being.
The staff is generally nice and a lot of the regulars from what I can tell are nurses from the nearby hospice (?) place. However one time I went to the coffee shop to write and get some work done and I happened to sit behind a full table of what I think were I'm not sure what they're called, but political... surveyors? Right before the election. They muttered and complained pretty loudly about stupid liberals and how to convince them to not be brainwashed by the dems or something honestly I barely remember the details, it was a twinge racist and a tinge just weird tbh. It made the vibes very awkward esp since they got onto a roll with removing illegals or something and I'm Hispanic lmao.
Aside from some of the weird clientele sometimes, well... the menu is huge. And by huge I mean HUGE. there's so many options. Which is nice, but also has its issues. Namely that I ordered chicken salad two separate times and got food poisoning, and a 3rd unrelated time my sister did the same and ALSO got food poisoning. The drinks also sometimes come out a bit inconsistent, sometimes being good sometimes tasting odd.
I honestly think if they tried to avoid letting some weird customers sit around saying weird stuff like that + got better QC around their food they'd continue to be amazing, but I think im going to take a break for a bit and come back in the future to re-evaluate. I don't want to rate too low as ofc it's a local business and they DO have good customer service and the people working the drinks are genuinely so so sweet, but it feels kind of dishonest to not be well, honest about how I...
