I am pregnant and had a craving for ice cream this evening so I asked my husband to get dressed and drive me to Dairy Queen on Callaghan. We went through the drive thru and ordered a medium Chocolate Covered Cherry Blizzard for me - the sole reason for the trip. There were two cars in front of us and the wait was about 7 minutes - long enough that they had to put the blizzard in the freezer when they made it and wait for me to get up to the window to pay. While the wait was a little long, I appreciate that the ice cream was not melted when they gave it to us because I do not like to eat it in the car.
When we got home, I tasted my Chocolate Covered Cherry Blizzard and from the first bite I knew it was wrong. I initially thought there were cookies in it, but upon further inspection I realized there were big chunks of brownie bits mixed all through it. I have a gluten allergy and eating brownies can make me very ill so the Blizzard was basically inedible for me. I have ordered this Blizzard from Dairy Queen since I can remember - probably for at least 15-20 years and it is always cherries with hard shell chocolate, never brownies. Thankfully, this is not an allergy like a peanut allergy that causes me immediate harm, but were I to eat that many brownie bites I would very sick for several days after. So I did dig through it to see if the brownies were throughout - they were - but I did not eat another bite of it.
I immediately called the Dairy Queen and spoke with the manager Teri on the phone. Teri asked an employee what they put in the Blizzard and they stated that it was the hard shell chocolate. Teri then argued with me, questioning whether there were actually brownies in the blizzard. She said that they put hard shell on it - implying that I was mistaken. I told her that I dug through the blizzard and found chunks of square cookies or brownies in my blizzard - definitely not hard shell chocolate. She then asked if I wanted to come back to the restaurant to replace or refund my order. I did not want to make my husband go all the way back over there, so I asked if there was a way to refund my debit card that I paid with. She told me that I could not do that, but if I wanted to put the blizzard in the freezer, bring it back tomorrow by 5pm I could get a refund. I had to bring the blizzard with me and it had to be before 5pm. I told her okay and hung up. In my opinion, Teri was argumentative, defensive and all together rude over the phone while I was speaking with her - not good customer service.
I do not plan on bringing the blizzard back tomorrow for a refund because (1) I have a job and a kid I have to take to daycare - I do not have time to come home get a blizzard from the freezer, go to DQ to bring it as proof that it was made wrong. I honestly cannot make it to that Dairy Queen location and back to work on my 30 minute allotted lunch break. (2) I think it is ridiculous to require me to bring that blizzard as proof, like I would call and complain for no good reason and I am lying. I do not understand the 5pm deadline. I threw the blizzard away - after my husband dug out some brownie pieces and took a picture of them hoping I could include them here since there was question about whether they were there.
I am not that upset about the mistake with my ice cream - mistakes happen and I worked in the food service industry for years, so I understand that. I do not have an allergy that one bite of anything causes me immediate danger, thank goodness. What does frustrate and upset me is the way that I was treated by management and the lack of a solution presented to me. When a customer calls the goal should be to help them anyway you can, not start of by trying to tell them they are wrong. I sincerely hope that the next customer who comes with an issue has a better...
Read moreAnother great wonder on how a location remains open with employees that honestly must hate their job. I have always loved DQ ice cream. Worked at a DQ in high school, and I can guarantee if a single employee had represented our owners the way these employees do. They would have been fired. Not 1 time in over 4 years has any 1 order been correct, if you attempt to tell them this, you are told that is what you ordered. Even though what is on the receipt and what you were served are on opposite sides. If it is taken to be fixed, forget about eating it. They will spit, put foul things in your food, do all manner of things that they deny. Having worked at a DQ I know ice cream cones for instance are to be weighed a kids weighs a certain # of ounces, small, medium, each one has a weight. Not at this location. Does not matter customers lined up or 1 customer, I pay and ask for a medium, or a large. Most often it is kids size. The first time I didnt say anything. But the next time, I ask is this my order, I ask for the large? I was told yes, that is a large. The customer in front of me had the tallest DQ cone I had personally ever seen in my life. It wouldn't even come close to being able to be dipped. The get the last 2 inches or so covered with chocolate they had to get a spoon from the back. The customer behind me was upset with their ice cream as well. They didnt pay for large and get kid size, but we weren't far off, and we all stood in line together. Today. Today was marvelous. My spouse is trying to order through the drive thru we sit there 3 or 4 minutes no I will be with you in a minute nothing. 1 car in front of us at the window, been at window since before we pulled in. Finally my spouse says hello, in a normal voice. A young man said I will be with you in a minute. Ok . So the car at the window drives away, the young man says can I help you. Same tone, my spouse begins to give the order. The young man says "I CANT HEAR YOU." so a little louder, my spouse gets to same spot young man again "CANT HEAR YOU". 3rd time my spouse has head out window loud not yelling very clearly and slowly begins the order, same spot "CANT HEAR YOU". 4th time he is practically yelling, doesn't get really started, again "CANT HEAR YOU". At this point, its ridiculous, my spouse says back to the starting tone " I'll drive to the window and see if you can (obscenity) hear then. Young man says "OKAY". Obviously my spouse is frustrated, because at this point it almost seems as if we are the tail end of their joke. At the window, a female, never identified herself, but attempted to act as if she were a manager. She says " you shouldn't have cussed". My spouse said no, and I apologize, (the very second the word apologize came out of his mouth the "young man" towering over the "MANAGER" that never identified herself. The young man is standing pointing and making laughing and funny like we were the joke. Again this female said you shouldn't have cussed. My spouse couldn't finish a sentence, she kept interrupting with you didnt need to cuss. We finally left. There was no communication with this female. And the young man was openly laughing out loud at my spouses 2nd attempt. These ppl do whatever they want, they think there will be no consequences. But, I do believe all the DQ's in San Antonio are owned by the same family. I believe they are Christians and they want their businesses to thrive and prosper. Not be destroyed by individuals playing games. So if you want ppl playing games with you and your food and your time please enjoy the DQ on Callahan Road. But if you value your time and want to get the food you paid for, and know it is safe to eat, then do NOT waste your time here until the owners get the riff raff...
