To start this review I would like to say that I had the deluxe cheese burger, tater tots, and a drink to-go. I also entered the restaurant on a Wednesday around 5:45pm. This is to give context to my experience.
My first impression of this burger was the size. For burger of this price I was expecting it to be a bit thicker, BUT I understand that a new business has cost margins that need to be met. The burger was about 3 inches in diameter, so a bit wider than a Whataburger and slightly thinner. The burger comes between two sesame seed buns with the usual fixings for a burger. The cheese used for the burger was a sharp cheddar cheese melted to emulate other premium burger places such as, Chris Madrid's or Babe's. The only thing that separated this burger from the aforementioned was the beef's lack of juicy thickness. Another lacking feature of the burger was taste. I feel as though the burger could use a bit more seasoning, but if they add more seasoning they do not need to add more salt. Other restaurants equate "more seasoning" = "more salt and pepper", and that is false. I ask the owners to play around with different spices that can enhance and make your burger stand out as it kind of just blends with the cheese which was the dominate flavor. The burger was very tender and was very easy to chew which I appreciate because quite frankly if I have to chew on a piece of burger for more than 3 seconds, you are doing it wrong. Thankfully this restaurant keeps the beef tender with as little grease as possible.
My tater tots were sufficient. Let's be honest tater tots are not good for you. They are just a basket of heart burn and a factor to onset diabetes, but I knew the risk when ordering. Now that we are past the health risks, I would say that I got a pretty good amount of tater tots than I would at most places. The tater tots also kept the amount of grease to a minimum, thanks! Most tater tots are greasey and salty, but these were not too salty and were well complimented by the included ketchup packets.
I will briefly cover drinks. Drinks are focused primarily on 6 Coca-Cola drinks that are all classics, so if you are looking for Big Red or Mountain Dew then you might want to consider drinking some water. I was informed by an employee that all refills are free while dinning in, so that is a major positive. No seriously, there are plenty of restaurants that keep their drinks under lock-and-key, so I was happy to hear that. There are also more premium drinks available, but honestly I didn't look at them so I cannot comment on those.
Overall I would say my experience was positive. If you've made it this far into the review then you are clearly interested in what I have to say. These burgers are by no means an alternative to McDonalds in terms of price, but if you want the best burgers in this neighborhood then this is the place. Other restaurants within a couple miles of this place cannot compare to the quality of the food and service coughOscarscoughRay'scoughAny Taqueriacough. If you just got paid or had a rough day, but do not want to go too far out of your neighborhood for a good burger then Filé's burger is the restaurant for you. I will definitely be back again, and I hope to see this small...
Read moreI’ve always said that a really great burger joint would do well in San Antonio. Well, look no further...Filé’s Burgers is an absolute gem!
I ventured away from ordering my traditional bacon cheeseburger and had their Bean Burger...I was NOT disappointed. It was absolutely THE BEST Bean Burger I have ever had...PERIOD. Their burgers and Fries (they have tots too) are made fresh to order. Buns are also freshly toasted - soft with a light toasted crunch. The Bean Burger was topped with delicious refried beans, chips, pico de gallo, lettuce, and copious amount of melted cheddar cheese. When the burger arrived at my table, the burger was almost too hot to handle, and I say that as a compliment.
Now let’s talk about ambience - the restaurant is SUPER CLEAN. The bathrooms (at least the men’s) are extremely well maintained. You can tell that there is a strong element of pride that goes not only in their food, but facilities as well. If I had one complaint, it would be that it is a little warm inside for me - but I’m a big guy and I like it cold inside a building.
To top it off, the service is second to none. I didn’t get the the names, but the son(s) work the counter and greet you with an enthusiastic and authentic smile. You can tell that they aim to please. The dad (Filé) is the man making the magic happen in the kitchen.
Once you add all these elements together, you’ll come to the same conclusion as I did - and that is: This is one of San Antonio’s PREMIER Burger Joints. You will not be let down. So when you’re hankering for a quality burger, go off the beaten path and support this locally owned “Burger Joint”. You be glad you did and you’ll come back...

Walking into File’s Burgers felt like stepping into a warm, familiar memory. The cozy atmosphere was inviting, with huge flags adorning the walls. However, one tiny flag in particular caught my eye, the VOKS flag, instantly transported me back to my high school days. Seeing it there was an unexpected yet delightful reminder of where I came from—a small but meaningful touch that made the experience even more special.
Now, let’s talk about the food. If you’re looking for fresh, made-to-order burgers, this is the spot. This isn’t your typical fast-food joint where everything is pre-made and rushed. Instead, the kitchen takes its time, ensuring every burger is cooked to perfection. For me, this was a plus, as I was out to lunch with friends. It gave us the chance to slow down, be in the moment, and actually enjoy good conversation while waiting for our food.
And for my fellow tater tot lovers, this place has you covered! Seeing them on the menu was a pleasant surprise, and they did not disappoint. Crispy, golden, and absolutely delicious, they were the perfect side to go with my meal.
Beyond the food, the customer service stood out. The staff was genuinely friendly, helpful, and made sure our experience was a great one. Their kindness added to the welcoming vibe of the place, making it clear that this is a business that truly values its customers.
All in all, File’s Burgers delivered on every level: food, atmosphere, and service. A solid 5/5 from me, and I’ll definitely be returning for another round of great food and nostalgia. If you haven’t checked this place out yet, do yourself a favor and...
