Maria's Cafe — Restaurant in San Antonio

My family and I have gone to this restaurant quiet a few times. We've never really had an issue with anything. The food is decent and they always have lunch specials which is a plus. We had lunch there about 2 days. Like I said the food is decent. We had the lunch special which was the puffy taco plate with picadillo. My daughter had her regular, bean & cheese tacos. We had our lunch and left. Not even 20 minutes later I started feeling as if I was having some heart issues, omg it was horrible. We had to find the closest drug store, my husband ran in to grab me some aspirin. I thought maybe I was having a heartattack. But then I started repeatedly burping. I knew at that point it was the food. I was nauseous for the remainder of the day. My husband and mother were literally stuck in the toilet thru out the evening. My babygirl got sick as well with belly pain, throwing up, and diarrhea. It was terrible. She was sick till the next day. I kinda figured it was the beans since we all ate that. So I called the restaurant just to let them know. I wasn't requesting a refund. But the girl who took my call was very rude. I'm almost certain it's the girl with the black hair who runs the register. Extremely rude! She kept telling me that she didn't know what to say. Apologizing first would have been the right thing to do. She really pissed me off. Although I'm not petty, I was this day. I immediately called the health department afterwards. Needless to say that is the last time I ever step foot in that...

The only reason I gave this place a 3 in atmosphere is due to the fact that the parking lot is a little small and limited. Some of the paint inside the cafe is peeling off and some of the dry wall is exposed. I would have submitted a pic but there are people sitting next to the area and I don't want them to assume I am taking of pic of them. That's my only negative of the place and I am pretty sure they will eventually fix this. Now as for the food and service. It is phenomenal. I had menudo and the ratio of meat and hominy was perfect. The tacos are well served. The size of the tortillas are a little bigger than the hand of an average male adult. The service was excellent. Our server was constantly asking us if we were good and if we needed more coffee, but she didn't overdo it to the point it was "pestering us". She is a great server. So the tortillas are great. Food is good. But they always over charge and its getting ridiculous. Certain tacos are supposed to be 2 for 1.99 during certain hours. But depending on who's the cashier they will over charge basically comes up double what it should. I really dont say anything cause it would take too long. But im going to start disputing the transactions cause I've already given this place over 70 dollars of being overcharged with how often I come. I had to collect receipts when ordering the came thing each time. Two potato and egg and one bean and cheese. Its crazy how often the prices change day To day.
