I really wanted to like this bar. I'm hoping it was just an off night.
The Good: great selection of beer and liquor (not many tequila bars in the area), creative cocktail and shot menu, and the vibes were puro San Antonio.
The Bad: It was difficult to order a drink at the bar. I didn't really feel acknowledged by the bartenders when I was trying to order a drink, even when making eye contact. Definitely took 10+ minutes to get service every time I tried to order. When I was finally able to order a cocktail, the bartender had to remake my drink 3 times after she taste-tested it (I do appreciate the quality check, though). I think it would also help if the menu (even if it's online) would detail the ingredients of the cocktails and list the prices of tequilas. I was trying to refrain from constantly bothering the bartenders about what goes in the cocktails and how much for a pour of "X" tequila. Lastly, it's not so much a place to unwind and enjoy tequila; it was a dressed Michelob Ultra crowd. DJ was switching between all kinds of music like Los Tigres del Norte, George Strait, Daft Punk, and J Lo, and the volume was a bit too loud, so it was hard to catch a vibe and I couldn't really talk with my friends.
The night was a little busy, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I'll probably try it out again in the...
Read moreI had a disappointing experience at Mas Chingon bar that left a very bad impression.
7/25 - I ordered a total of 5 drinks, 3 drafts and 2 canned beverages, which came out to around $32 and some change. I added a tip and signed the check. However, I realized I was short one drink and asked for another draft. When I received the second check, the total had doubled to $64 and some change.
I immediately pointed out the discrepancy to the bartender. She took the check, glanced at it, and then strangely handed it to the person next to me, not me, before continuing her work without addressing my concern.
I stepped away to process what just happened and checked my bank account. I noticed two pending transactions from Mas Chingon. I returned to dispute the charges and found that my card had been charged for 6 whiskies and 2 beers, definitely not what I ordered.
Eventually, the second charge was refunded, but the situation felt shady. Whether intentional or not, it raises serious concerns. Double-charging a customer and charging for items never ordered is unacceptable. I now question whether this was a mistake or part of a pattern, as it felt deliberate.
I would caution anyone visiting Mas Chingon to double-check their tabs and bank statements. This kind of business practice is how places lose trust...
Read moreThis was not the experience advertised. I walked in and the bartender said “it’s an open bar I can make whatever you want” but couldn’t make a cherry mezcalrita and put pineapple juice in it? She said “I know how to make a blue Hawaiian” but it was green. Hear me out with some constructive criticism. PLEASE have a cocktail menu with 5 drinks max on it and give recipe cards to your bartenders so they know how to make the signature drinks. The drinks advertised on the website are not displayed anywhere in the bar nor are any ingredients listed. The bartender was a beer girl pretending to know how to mix drinks. She tasted all of our drinks too and also said “I don’t really like mezcal” at a mezcal bar?! She also said “I just learned how to make an old fashioned” like WHAT. I don’t even work at a bar and google will tell me how to make an old fashioned, I do it at home lol. I won’t come here again unless they actually turn into a real mezcal bar. Don’t market yourself as a cocktail bar if your specialty is a beer bucket be so forreal. On top of that the wait for a drink was so long with a max of 10 people in the bar. Management left their bartender for dead by not giving signature drink recipes. Watch bar rescue or something before your...
