Yesterday, my husband and I sought something unique for our Sunday outing and discovered Stone Terrace Gastropub, a true gem nestled amid the rolling hills of Stone Oak on the 281 end. With enchanting fairy lights adorning the outdoor patio and an impressive Google rating, we arrived with high expectations and were definitely not left wanting for more.
The menu was brimming with tempting options, but the âSurf & Turf Flightâ caught our eye. It featured petite Beef Wellington which was a must-try for us; alongside seafood delights. The Beef Wellington was truly extraordinary, with perfectly seared tenderloin encased in golden, flaky puff pastry. Every bite was melt-in-your-mouth decadence!
The flightâs other offerings were equally delightful. The chicken cordon bleu was juicy and flavorful, the crab cakes with dill aioli were divine, and the bacon-wrapped shrimp were perfectly succulent. Accompanied by creamy garlic mashed potatoes and chili-kissed Brussels sprouts, even Brussels sprouts skeptics like us were thoroughly impressed.
Our server, Larkyn, elevated the experience with her attentiveness and insight, without being intrusive. When we inquired about her favorite dish, she recommended the grilled chicken with truffle mushroom ravioli, flown in from Italy. The owner, Skip, and Chef Wiz graciously accommodated our request to add a side of the ravioli to our flight. The result was unforgettable: creamy, cheesy indulgence with earthy truffle and mushroom notes, paired nicely with a velvety sauce. It was a true standout and next to the Wellington, became my favorite main dish of the night!
To start, we shared the Charred Caesar salad, a creative twist on the classic. The charred romaine added a subtle sweetness, complemented by anchovy-forward dressing and a fresh burst of lemon.
The dessert, however, was the highlight to an already incredible dining experience: Banana Cheesecake Pie. This luscious creation combined cookie butter filling with caramelized bananas foster, delivering one of the best desserts weâve ever had. Chef Wiz, whose pastry expertise is evident, surprised us with two additional desserts at our table, which showcased his talent and thoughtfulness to allow us an opportunity to experience three decadently sweet finishes.
The Gastropubâs hospitality stood out just as much as its food. From the hostess to the owner, Skip, every staff member made us feel welcomed and accommodated. Larkynâs attentiveness and Chef Wizâs personal touches, including his rumored operatic singing on special occasions (weâre going back for a birthday celebration hoping to experience that) added charm to the experience.
Stone Terrace is more than a mealâitâs an experience. We left eagerly anticipating our next visit, especially with plans to celebrate my husbandâs birthday there next month. With exceptional food, warm service, and a welcoming atmosphere, this hidden gem on the far north side of San Antonio is well worth the drive for an elevated date night, brunch with the fam, cocktails, or delightful lunch. If the weather is nice, ask to be sat on the sprawling patio overlooking canopied oaks.
As a side note, we learned the Banana Cheesecake Pie will soon be added to the regular dessert menu â yet another reason to return for our new favorite San Antonio dessert!
Cheers, Skip đ„ and a great big thank you to you and your crew for a delightful early Sunday...
Read more*This is not a paid advertisement This is my second time at Stone Terrace(ST) and it would be injustice to ST not to document my experience. ST is a new restaurant and the location has been on constant rotation of restaurants and ST breaks the curse. First, shoot out to my lovely bartender Liz. The sorceress not only can create cocktails out of thin air, she is scholar of mixology. The person on the bar just whispers a portion not normally available and the magic is done. On food, their food places them the next contender and challenge Clementine as the queen of San Antonio restaurant scene. I have the Benedict flight (and thank you for the food flight concept), the scramble eggs is as fluffy as cloud, the crab cake is just...are you making money on this...whoa, the prosciutto is spot-on. *wait, I thought you said you ordered a Benedict, why are you saying all the stuff but Benedict? Me: yes, go check them out. So, I have been there twice, and the beef flight is just...thank you ST. Not only i got filet mignon, I got beef wellington as well! And just like a cheesy infomercial, but wait there is more! I had to fight my wife to stay away from MY meatloaf. Happy wife, happy life but not only this case. I am tore on desserts. If I have only been once I can just praise your dessert menu and call it a day. But now that I have tried your croffle, I don't understand why they are not on your dessert menu. *you didn't mention anything about desserts this time and what's croffle? Me: yes, go check them out. I will at least show you a picture of croffle but picture does not do its justice. In addition, I didn't realize I would witness a side quest. There was a mix up with my order, my beloved Liz with her super enchantress power fought for me twice and slayed the dragon. And believe she has other stuff to do. At the end, Lord ST comp the mix up. And because I have been here a couple times, I recognize the way they treat people and place people over profits is not only because of the individual excellence but team that with all the managerial duties. If I have to say 2 things: Decor. It is nice and I think your white wall can benefit gold theme decor since your bar is black and gold oriented. $50 on gold paint, paint tape and a paint brush will do the trick. Very high on return on investment (ROI) PLEASE don't let Michelin finds you because I still want to dine here *why are you still writing? Me: yes, go check them out. And it's because I cannot conclude the review, or essay now, without mentioning the lobster bisque. It may be jaw dropping price but worth every penny. Every high ROI...
Read moreMy husband and I visited for a Valentineâs Day lunch and the food was amazing. We tried a little bit of everything. We started with crostinis topped with goat cheese, crisped prosciutto, and drizzled with fig jam. The contrast of textures and flavors was spectacular. We also tried the Lobster Bisque. The deep, buttery richness of the bisque enveloped tender chunks of fresh lobster and it was served in a stunning presentation with the lobster shell elegantly framing the bowl.
My husband had the beef sampler (meatloaf, mini beef Wellington, and filet mignon) and I had the surf and turf sampler (mini beef Wellington, mini chicken cordon bleu, crab cakes, and shrimp rémoulade). Both were amazing. Both samplers came with garlic mashed potatoes and honey chipotle Brussels sprouts, which was spicy, sweet, and perfect.
The dish that stole the show was the Mini Beef Wellington. This was a masterpiece of flavor and texture, with the tenderest, juicy beef encased in prosciutto, and a flaky, buttery, golden pastry. It was all topped with a luxuriously creamy mushroom sauce that tied everything together in one decadent, mouthwatering bite. This is a must-order!
The bananas fosters cheesecake pie cannot be missed either! With a combination of a syrupy warm glaze and bananas, paired with the cool layered cheesecake, topped with fresh whipped cream, and a buttery crunchy crust, it was a dessert heaven for the senses. We only had a a couple of bites each and felt the sugar buzz of such a rich and decadent dish. Totally worth it!
Portion sizes are huge and we left with a giant bag of leftovers. Service was good, drinks were good, and the atmosphere during a late weekday lunch was quiet. We were one of three tables between 2pm and 4:00pm (non-peak restaurant hours). Womenâs restrooms had a terrible sewage odor, but they were clean.
TLDR: Itâs clear that quality and care is at the heart of their menu, making it a must-visit for any food lover. Quiet atmosphere for an enjoyable...
