Hopefully a helpful review of toroyo ... The good, the bad, the ugly Please forgive me for not posting pics of my food, we ate them rather quickly!)

The good: • Its very clean • friendly staff • family owned (owned by 2 brothers) • menu is concise but diverse (has all the staples - toro, hamachi, uni, etc) • fish delivery every other day

The bad • Heavy garnish on sashimi ( honestly would prefer less or for them to save money and just add simple cucumber and diakon. It was a beautiful presentation but unnecessary, the food stood on it own).

The ugly: • None

We ordered the: • Mackerel sashimi - delicious, very fresh! • unagi sashimi - very good portions, with cucumber and a nice crisp garlic oil and scallion garnish • lemon special roll - heaven on a plate!! Light, fresh, citrus but not too heavy. The spicy tobik balanced out the fresh lemon. Honestly do not leave without trying it, you will regret it. • Toro'ko special roll - decadent! (Hedonism bot approves!) The combination of truffle oil, torched toro, Sriracha , and salmon made this one of the best rolls I've had in my life. 100/10 would eat this everyday. • mi ceviche roll - interesting roll. The ceviche was 10/10 and I found out it's a standalone item on the menu. The roll and ceviche combined was good but there was something missing. The roll has a story to tell and it has the beginning and middle but it's missing it's final act. Overall very good but I want to taste the full story.

TL:Dr One of the best sushi places I've had in San Antonio. Beats out the normal places (sushi sushi, sushihana, sushishima, toro, etc) , highly recommend...

This place was a very highly recommended place from a friend and I gotta say, I was blown away.

The service was very friendly, warm, and inviting as soon as I walked in. I sat at the bar and even those behind the bar were very enthusiastic. They received a fresh shipment of fish in, and they let me know what was fresh and recommendations.

The food was excellent. I started with the spicy tuna tower and the presentation was gorgeous. The tuna tasted fresh and the cucumber added that crispness, the sauces and avocado complimented it all very well. I also got the Toroko Special Roll and that was by far the best roll i’ve ever had. It was fresh, melt in your mouth, and super satisfying to eat. And lastly, I ordered the Toro (fatty tuna belly) nigiri. You know food is good when you close your eyes and smile after the first chew. It literally melted as I chewed and the tuna taste was incredible. The Toro was one of the cuts that they said they just got in, and you could definitely taste it.

Overall, this is my new to go spot for sushi and my new recommendation to others. You can’t beat the price for quality here. It’s a tad expensive, but you’re getting pretty high quality...

I live in the neighborhood of this Toroko sushi (Huebner and NW Military) and decided to support my local business, but was very disappointed in their service. I ordered online (~$100) and sent my teenage daughter to go pick it up at the designated time. When she got to this restaurant, the employees were rude and discourteous. She had to wait there for the order, for over ONE HOUR past the designated pick up time. The restaurant employees were rude and did not apologize at all for the over one hour delay in the order. My daughter was understandably very frustrated and almost in tears in dealing with the rude, discourteous, and unapologetic restaurant employees. And, to top off this miserable experience, the food quality was not good, with condiments missing in the package. I always like to support my local businesses, but I would not recommend this business. I suggest to go down NW military to other sushi places with much better service and...

In my quest to eat at all good restaurants in San Antonio, I was excited to try Toroko when I was in the mood for sushi recently. I was disappointed with the menu, not finding any sushi combinations, but when I asked the server about it, I was happy to learn they had a 21 price nigiri combo special so we went with that. I wanted a few rolls to share, too, but found the menu overwhelming. With no pictures and names that don't always indicate what's inside, I picked a few at random I knew we would like. Everything looked great, and the nigiri seemed nice and fresh, but 3 different pieces had a chemical/plasticy taste. I can only assume the wooden tray it was served on was not food-safe and I was tasting the finish. My family enjoyed all the rolls we got, but strangely I did not detect any jalapeño in the Jalapeño roll. I wish they had a caterpillar roll. The gyoza was just okay, mainly cabbage. We probably won't go back.

My friend Teri is a fan of sushi like I am, so I wanted to introduce her to @toroko.sushi and also check out their new location on NW Military and Huebner. We're celebrating her belated birthday with some girl time. Teri actually chose the Sake Bomb, which was great since she's never had one, but also great to capture on video! She had it with Sapporo and I had it with Kirin Light. She chose the Toro'ko Special Roll, and I chose the sashimi for us. I ordered the Fatty Salmon, Fatty Yellowtail, Escolar, and Ikura nigiri. Loved everything! Perfect amount of food and the food is just as fresh as the Stone Oak location. For dessert, Teri chose the Mochi ice cream in green tea, strawberry, and mango flavors. Tummy full and love language tank was full from quality time. Friendship to cherish indeed! 📍14510 NW Military Highway Another location is 158 E. Sonterra Blvd.
