Baker's Drive-Thru — Restaurant in San Bernardino

My review is based on numerous visits to several locations over the last couple of years. I really wanted to see if the issues were supply chain obstacles or changes made by leaders at the corporate level. Well it seems to be the latter. My most recent visit was to the Kendall Dr location in San Bernardino on January 15, 2023.

Baker’s used to have great quality food. Their burgers were just as good as In-N-Out in my opinion. Over the last couple of years things have changed for the worse. The food quality has dropped so much that they now have the worst quality burger in the fast food industry. It’s so sad.

On this most recent visit, the burger was the worst yet. Tiny dry cracking bun, wilted shredded lettuce, low quality meat. Burger was just terrible. Unfortunately this is the typical burger served at all locations now.

Additionally, they have eliminated the pink lemonade from the menu (my wife’s favorite). What are they thinking???!!!

This one might be a little hard right now but the quality of the employees has also diminished. Most, but not all, act like the customer is a bother instead of the reason they have a job there. In the past every location had older, mature employees that provided leadership to others at the location. Bakers seems to have gotten away from that philosophy.

With the crazy inflation we are seeing right now we all know that prices have increased on everything. Additionally, the forced increase in the minimum wage has affected all employers in California. So how did Baker’s corporate leadership respond? The chose to reduce the quality of their products to the point of being the worst in the industry. They have also chosen to abandon any attempt to hire quality employees. Essentially they have chosen to drive the company out of business eventually. It will be a sad ending for a once great Inland Empire restaurant chain.

This all can be fixed. You just need to correct your course and return to the direction that was established by your founder Neil Baker. Your current system is broken! All of these negative reviews are not a fluke or from disgruntled customers. They are mostly from customers that are shocked at how far your once great restaurant has fallen.

Now the question:

Are you going to fix things or drive the company out...

I used to love this Baker's but for the last three plus years it has gone down hill in a bit way. The wait times are insane. I get they are making burgers fresh, which I appreciate, but it never use to take so long. I have been in line, where I couldn't get out or I would have left, and it has taken 25-30 minutes and that's from the order speaker.

Another issue is their taco meat. It is nearly always greasy, to the point the grease is oozing out of the taco shell or burrito. Today the tacos were so greasy the shells were actually soggy, inedible.

This is not just a Baker's problem, but the prices keep going up and the quality and size go down. Nearly six dollars for a burrito that is half the size it was is not ok.

Today I was there and was in line for over 20 minutes and there were literally two cars in front of me. I do believe the car in front of me may have been part of the problem since it sounded like they didn't know how to order at a drive thru. My biggest issue was once that person got to the window, paid, and got their order, they actually ordered something else. That should not have been permitted since by this point there were at least four and possibly five cars behind me. They should have been told no and to go around again at that point.

Baker's used to be my favorite place, to the point it was my first and last stop for food when I lived in the East Coast and came back on vacation. Anymore, I rarely go since the quality is decreasing and the prices just keep going up.

BTW, I have been enjoying Baker's since their Baby, Mama, and Papa meals were $1, $2, and $3, so I know how good...

This morning around 8:54 AM. I visited your location on Kendall Drive San Bernardino. The lady assisting me at the window. Her name was Diane. At first she gave me a root beer when I ordered Mr. Pibb. She did correct this, and give me the correct drink. But that drink still did not taste correctly. When I was ordering my egg tacos, I asked for flour tortillas. She said it came with flour tortillas. When I got to work, I realize that it in fact comes with corn tortillas. Just like I thought. I just now called the store manager and he asked me to keep the food until I can come back on Monday. I’m not about to hold this food until Monday. He said then you can come back right now and get a refund. He was very unprofessional and he was not trying to accommodate me. It was not my fault. My order got messed up. I know things happen, but I’m disappointed at his response to my bad experience at his location. I wasn’t even asking for a refund. All I wanted was him to replace my meal when I was in the...
