The name of this little place (True Gelato) really says a lot as they do have one of the best Gelatos in town. It kinda tastes like my mother used to make when I was a kid - smooth and slightly chewy and not overly sweet like some ice creams tend to be. My favorite flavors are the Chocolate Hazelnut and the Pistachio but Spumoni, Cookies and Cream and Tiramisu are no less enjoyable. Their espresso based drinks are also great and so are pastries. Coffee beans are from Cafe Calabria which for me guarantees the quality. If you're into tea, try the Spiced Indian Chai. Because of all restaurants around there, parking is quite difficult so you may be better off parking along Washington and walking back down. Bottom line is that if I were to suggest a good place for Gelato, this...

Not safe for food allergies and not a good option for vegans. My daughter, who has food allergies, asked the server if she could use a clean scoop for her sorbet. The server said she could run the scoop under hot water (really, you dont have.clean scoops in the back of an ice cream shop?!), but since they use the same scoop for everything, the sorbet could have milk and nuts in it. When we go to ice cream shops, most places accommodate us by going in the back to open a fresh package if need be, This server really didn't seem interested in helping us. I wanted to tell her look girlie. I've been coming here longer than you've been alive and have brought a lot of people here over the years. You could at least not be rude about it. But we just left and...

First off, staff are rude AF. Seriously, if you're not a super local regular here, the staff will treat you like a severe inconvenience. Gelato is good, not great. Sorbetto is pretty tasty actually. Ambiance is alright; place is pretty run-down looking and dirty. They do have this whole upstairs area that has a ton of potential but is very under utilized and not well-kept. I've been to the place plenty since I moved up the street from it, but the coffee is subpar at best and inconsistent. Couple that with the fact that the staff clearly do not want to be there and look at you like you've just slashed their tires for simply entering the store and yeah, won't be back and do...

One of my daily go-to’s This place is like from a movie—everyone knows your name and order when you walk in! From the muffins and coffee, to the tasty homemade gelato it simply can’t be beat! The food is always delicious and the customer service is fast, respectful, and reliable. I would 1000% recommend you go for breakfast, or an afternoon snack. My favorite is the banana blackberry muffin and tiramisu ice cream. The music is generally very relaxing yet hip! But my favorite of favorites is definitely their water it just doesn’t get better than reverse osmosis I’m convinced! Please love yourself and come get you some gelato! 😋

A San Diego institution that’s been around since 1984. They have really great gelato and coffee. I love the spumoni and espresso gelatos, and the raspberry sorbet. You can have the gelato turned into affogatos and malts too! My other favorite item here is the carrot cake. The store has a second floor where it’s nice to hang out with friends or study/work. There’s a good view from up there, especially for the sunset. The staff is super friendly here and very laidback. If you’re looking for dessert and you’re in Mission Hills/Hillcrest/Sports Arena/Old Town—this is your spot.

I love this gelato shop in Mission Hills. The gelato is very good and it's the only location that I know of that carries my favorite Gianduja (chocolate hazelnut) gelato. It’s to die for. They also have excellent sorbets. I usually purchase the quarts and take them home to enjoy over the next few weeks. The hours of operation are also great. Street parking can be tough during peak hours but since I am quick in and out I park across the street at the gas station and pick up and go.
