Ken Sushi Workshop in San Diego, is the place to be If you're seeking an authentic and exquisite sushi experience with one of a kind chef who makes it very interesting for his patrons.
Parking lot looked definitely good enough to accommodate a good amount of cars though we happened to get there via Uber as we were visiting San Diego and did not have a rental car.
Right from there, we were greeted with a cheerful smile and were assigned a seat inside within a couple of minutes. We were definitely struck by the intimate and inviting ambiance. The minimalist decor, traditional Japanese aesthetics, and softly lit interior create a serene atmosphere that elevates the dining experience. The sushi bar seating allows you to watch the skilled chefs in action, adding an extra layer of enjoyment. Since we were seated a bit away from the bar we got to see a few glimpses of Mr Ken's guile in all his glory. Definitely recommend front seating (aka at the bar) to the show!!!
The service at Ken Sushi Workshop is unparalleled. The staff's warmth and attentiveness were remarkable. Jacky was not only knowledgeable about the menu but also eager to share his passion for sushi. Their personalized recommendations and attention to detail made the meal truly memorable. He made sure that he understood our asks and then recommended from the options available and made our experience so much more better and every bit worth it.
Having done our research and as well paying keen attention to what Jacky had to say we ordered the following: Began with 2 Miso soups along with the Salmon belly and Toro (melted in our mouth. wonderfully fat and juicy). Followed that up with the Hula role with the Mango-a-go-go and a workshop special role at the time. The freshness of the fish and the precision in preparation were evident in every piece. The variety of flavors and textures simply blew our minds. We wrapped the dinner up with a Green Tea Ice-cream that stuck a fine balance between sweet and texture and you can never go wrong with that.
Ken Sushi Workshop offers a premium sushi experience and the prices reflect the quality and craftsmanship of the food. It's an ideal choice for a special occasion , when you're craving an authentic sushi adventure or simply to witness Chef Ken's guile at work.
From the elegant ambiance and top-notch service to the sushi that can only be described as a work of art, it's a restaurant that stands out in the world of sushi. I would highly recommend paying a visit to them and becoming a patron of theirs.

KEN Sushi is tucked away in a cluster of office buildings, serving lunch to nearby professionals and dinner to locals and Japanese patrons unwinding after work. I visited during a busy Monday lunch, and the place was buzzing with people discussing work and socializing. The atmosphere has a clear golf theme—there are golf clubs and bags at the entrance, and the walls are decorated with flags from various tournaments. It seems like many regulars might be involved with the Torrey Pines US Open.
The sushi bar was bustling, with several chefs preparing fresh sushi. For lunch, they offer a variety of bento boxes, including teriyaki beef, chicken, and sushi combos. I opted for the tempura box, which came with crispy fried shrimp, pumpkin, onion rings, and a side of sauce. It also included miso soup, a vegetable salad, and rice—although the portion of rice was small, the generous amount of tempura made the meal quite satisfying.
I also ordered a pair of Sea Urchin (Uni) Sushi, and the uni was impressively large, with well-formed rice and seaweed. However, the price was steep—$23 for just two pieces of sushi, which made my overall bill exceed $50 for lunch. While the food was fresh and tasty, the high price might be a downside for some.
Throughout the meal, the service was excellent—the staff was friendly and attentive, which definitely added to...

Don't go there. There are other much better sushi restaurants just a few minutes drive from there. Don't understand the hype. The chefs need to study better from Sushi Ota!
No ambiance. We were seating in a plastic bubble outside next to the parking lot. lol
Food: sashimi fish was fresh but it was thinly sliced. Denfinitely overpriced.
Service: terrible. Food doesn't come together. 1/2 of the party had to watch the other eat and digest. A meal could be done 1.5 hours, lasted 2+ hours due to missing orders, mixed up orders, and wrong dishes!
Previous visit: 4 stars We made reservation at 7pm for 2 at the sushi bar but people were still eating at 7:15, so the hostess offered us a table instead. Because we were there for sushi nigiri and sashimi mainly, we really preferred the sushi bar, so that we could see how the sushi chef works. That was a disappointment that we could not sit at the sushi bar.
Sushi: loved the freshness and sweetness of uni, fish belly, and giant clam! The rice to fish portion in the nigiri was good. I somehow prefer the sashimi cut thicker instead of long. I rolled up the sashimi belly to get the thickness feel when I bite into the fish. We ended with truffle/uni/toro nigiri; that was a good memorable finish for our meal.
Next time we will try...
