Kim's Bar-B-Que — Restaurant in San Diego

Old school BBQ soul food coming out of this little place. No frills, no bs, just good old classic food. Made me very reminiscent of when I lived in Georgia and ate this food a few times a week. Wilbert might be one of the coolest guys in SD. Big woman in front of me pissed off for no reason messing with him and he gives it right back at her. He's funny as hell and gives this place a lot of charisma.

Rib dinner plate for $9 is no joke. Half slab of ribs, 2 sides and corn bread. I couldn't finish. I got a hot link on the side and it was good. A little salty and wish there was more heat, but hit the spot. Ribs are good. These tasted salty too. Sauce is average. Need to try their hot bbq sauce next time. Collards are pretty good. This is one of the few places in So CA that know how to make them. Yams are the jam here. Best one's around. Sweeter than a bowl of peach cobbler. Cornbread kind of blew me away with the base of it. Can't figure out what they're doing to it, but I'm gonna find out.

Wish they did catfish and black eye peas here. Don't expect to dine-in and bring cash. If you're a bbq snob that wants to talk about special rubs and injecting meats, this place...

Ok sooooo… I went to check this place out on a Sunday afternoon. There was only one church lady in front of me leaving with 3 stuffed bags . Now …..👀👀👀 that tells me I’m at the right spot. This little boutique bbq spot has been in its location for 20yrs. And you wanna know why ????? Hmmmmmm ???? Because it’s DELICIOUS!!! Can’t beat a hot link sandwich on some white bread (🥯 or bun… whatevs ) The pricing is $10.00 to $15.00 LESS than neighboring bbq places. Now let me be clear …. This is a “ no frills” establishment. But that’s fine with me. I can’t eat a “frill” anyway 😂. They actually have sides !! The seasoned gentleman working the restaurant was straight to the point ( no glitter and rainbows). You need to know what cha want when you get to the counter. The prices are so reasonable I don’t even care you can’t eat inside. If you want some backyard at your grandparents house , family cook out with the reel to reels playing in the background at the park on a summer day right before school starts back bbq….. Welp this is your spot! Your tastebuds will...

The only reason that I'm giving it 2 starts instead of 1 is price. The prices are pretty reasonable but the quality...

Where to start. They were out of baked beans. I ordered the pork rib dinner,(If you want pulled pork, sorry they don't have it) collard greens, and potato salad. We were the only ones there and it still took almost 10 minutes for him to get the commercially available tub of potato salad (there's macaroni salad in there too) from the fridge, pick the collard greens,(I say this because they were gross and tasted raw), and MICROWAVE the ribs! The ribs were then drenched in some off the shelf BBQ sauce that was very vinegar tasting. The ribs were not trimmed at all so trying to eat them was a real PITA.
