I thought we were going to order take out for some sandwiches to go at Piccolo Pete’s Deli, but when we arrived all we found was The Aroma Buena Cafe at Bayshore Blvd near Tunnel Ave. Although the menu was limited, l was delighted with my Turkey and Provolone Sandwich on a French roll and my friend ordered the Special which was some sort of spicy Buffalo chicken sandwich. I could tell by the look on his face that he was disappointed with the small selection ...But ...we drove down Tunnel Avenue and under 101 to enjoy them out by the bay where Candlestick Point was located on a map. While eating in our car he commented on how good he thought his sandwich was, far beyond his expectations. Mine was so large, l could only eat half! We then took a quick walk out to the water’s edge but didn’t want to leave the car for long, due to dubious surroundings. It is where the parking lots for Candlestick Park once were. If you continued on down Gilman, into the Bayview, you reach 3rd Street. Remnants of the former 49er glory, we passed Bill Walsh Way, etc. They still had the metering light structures up over the road.
