I had just pulled an all-nighter when I made the unfortunate decision that I would simply have to forgo sleep for the entire day to maintain my sleeping schedule. To this end, I chose to go to a local diner to get some coffee.
The closest diner to me was the Bayside Cafe. Upon entering, I was greeted warmly by Manny, who I think was the owner. Manny was chopping it up with some of his regulars when I came in, but he broke his conversation and immediately got me seated with a menu. He also brought me some orange juice and coffee. "Thank god," I thought to myself. I desperately needed the caffeine.
The interior is nice and cozy in that "I can hide in my booth over here and browse on my phone comfortably =)," kind of way, with ample seating. I was also only one of 4 customers in there on that Saturday morning, so the atmosphere was nice and relaxing.
While pawing through the menu, I noticed the Belgian Waffle which I had seen earlier in prior reviews. It looked delicious in those pictures, so I decided to try it. Well, it was fantastic. It came with eggs and bacon, which hit the spot, but the waffle itself was the real prize. It was nice and cinnamon-y, and sprinkled additionally with pearl sugar. It also came with a healthy dose of whipped butter. DELICIOUS!
Definitely give this place a try. I think next time, I'll go for one of the Mexican options, like the Chilaquiles. This is the perfect spot if you want to just chill out early in the morning before work/school/or whatever obligations you...
Read moreCame here on a Sunday morning, parking wasn't too bad and it wasn't super busy. Inside the place was clean and simply decorated. I was greeted and helped right away.
The prices were reasonably priced, and it was pretty standard for anywhere you go. I ordered 5 items, and it was a little over $100, so I'm not complaining. I'm not going to lie. I double-checked my order because people complained about being double charged... then again, those people only have left 1 review or a handful at that.. so you already know.. the only thing different is, I paid with card and they charged an admin fee for $4 and some change. I do know credit card companies charge a fee for using their machine. I'm guessing they are just passing it on to the customer.
Corned beef hash and eggs w/ house potatoes - It was tasty and pretty much what you would expect. House potatoes were well cooked and seasoned
Country Fried Steak and eggs combo - Standard country fried steak. Portion was ok, had a little crunch. I liked that they placed the gravy on the side
Meat omelette - Has ham, bacon, and sausage. Tasty and not greasy from all the meat. Hashbrowns were nice and crunchy
Pancake combo - Good pancakes and combo
Overall, the food was pretty basic. Didn't stand out in any way. Not like any flavor explosions in your mouth.
I do want to come back and try the chilaquiles, breakfast burrito, and french...
Read moreI grew up in Visitacion Valley neighborhood, this place has been here for as long as I can remember, and has always been a nice spot to have a quick comfortable bite to eat. I recently ordered two breakfast dishes over the phone. When I arrived to pay for the to go orders...(Two eggs, grits, three turkey sausages patties). The cashier quoted me a price of 48.00!!!!! I had to make sure he had the correct order. He repeated my order and told me that prices are going up! True, but 48.00 for two basic breakfast plates??? The food was ok, but I will definitely not be patronizing this place. I am fine with paying for a good meal, but nowhere on this earth would I ever pay 48.00 for grits, eggs, and turkey sausage. Box of grits ($5.00), A dozen of Eggs ($10 these days), Turkey Sausage pack(4.99) total = 20.00 and breakfast for atleast 3 days. I can't imagine what the prices will be when the so called...
