A Wake-Up Call for Dogpatch: Who Are We Supporting?
Today, Wilson—the owner of this local coffee shop—showed me exactly who he is. I approached him with a simple ask for support and shared a volunteer project I’m launching to uplift our neighborhood, specifically focused on supporting Black, Brown, and other disenfranchised communities. His response? Disrespect, condescension, and a shocking dismissal. He told me not to bother, criticized me for taking on more than one project, and essentially told me my work didn’t matter.
Let me be clear: this wasn’t just rude—it was harmful. He made it very clear that if something doesn’t involve him, he doesn’t care. That’s not leadership. That’s ego. That’s privilege.
As a queer woman who has faced pushback her whole life, I’m no stranger to these moments. But it never stops stinging when someone with power uses it to belittle others. Wilson is not who he pretends to be. And Dogpatch—our small, tight-knit neighborhood—we need to hold our community businesses accountable for how they treat all of us.
My project will continue. It will thrive. Because it’s built on love, equity, and justice. And because we, as neighbors, have the power to support each other instead of those who try to stand in the way.
If you care about our collective future, if you care about the people who need it most—think twice before giving your support to a place that doesn’t give it back. We...
Read moreI've given this place a lot of tries but I don't think its worth the hype. I will say the service is great! But the drinks are lackluster. Iced and hot latte are pretty standard and the matcha is very sweet (so beware if you order thinking it won't be sweetened without asking for sweetener) so not to my liking but could be good if you're into sweet drinks. Also, be sure to ask for extra ice for iced drinks as I've had 2 experiences where my iced drink was lukewarm and the ice had just melted away. The pastries are solid! Notably their croissants which are packed with flavor. The devil inside muffin was on the greasier side but still decent. The ambiance is very tech millennial core which isn't my favorite but can understand the appeal given the location. Overall its a standard coffee shop, but I think there are way better options on 22nd alone and around the dogpatch for...
Read moreI've been to their other locations, but this is the most inviting. Bright, airy space, free wifi, and I just really love the layout with the chairs and tables on the side and also out front. I came by twice for their soft and grand opening. The matcha latte was surprisingly sweet on top (if I didn't like sweet drinks, I probably wouldn't have liked it) and I liked their iced chai. The pastries are the most interesting to get!
The Devil Inside is this soaked gouda, parmesan, cheddar cheese pastry with a boiled egg inside. I do wish the egg was more runny, since it seemed pretty cooked inside. But all in all, it was fun to eat and very filling. I also later tried their almond croissant, and this might be because I'm getting older, but I found it a bit too sweet. Very filling and generous portion! All in all, I would come back....
