Theres no neef to drive police vehicles on the walkway, ( hazardous I may ad), flashing red & blues at the stroke of 10p.m. EVERY night enforcing an unwritten, or un voted on curfew, for consenting Adults. By the way my children are all over 21. Sandy area closes at 10pm. If you plan to stay the night, plan to be ticketed $76 between 2a.m.-5a.m if your parked there--7 days a week the sign says,-- but they single out to ' whom' tickets are issued. Not good PR boys n girls. Why is the sandy area closed. My wife of 40+ years and I like to enjoy the surf, stars, and Peace fullness a quiet togetherness after most people are gone to their home or are doing the same as us. If you like babysitting go. Read moreIt's wonderful gathering around a fire on the beach. Bring your own wood as there is none available. Ocean Beach from Fulton St. to Lincoln Blvd. has fire pits regulated by the National Park Service. There are signs by the beach stairs across from the park stating use rules. Check the website for the latest version. Last I heard, the NPS had changed the policies for pit use by requiring reservations, and forbidding burning plastic & trash. Fires can burn only until 9pm if a ranger comes by.
If this is your 1st time at the beach, note that this is Northern California. The area and water can be cold and windy in the afternoon and evening year around. Don't expect to swim in the waves. The current is very strong and dangerous. People have jumped in, been carried away and died. This is not a user friendly swimming beach!
