A progressive eco-minded city like SF should know better than to let children play on an AstroTurf soccer filed covered with crumb rubber. Hundreds of research studies done around the world show a strong link between the recycled car tires used to make the crumb rubber infill and an alarming incidence of cancers among young soccer players, especially among the goalies, as they are exposed the most. These synthetic soccer fields are now banned in NYC, and also in Sweden and in the Netherlands. Why is SF replacing all the natural grass soccer fields with these unhealthy old car tires carpets? Officials say it will save water. True, but how about the health of our children? Each soccer field contains about 20.000 shredded car tires. One can only imagine the amount of toxic molecules a child is exposed to when playing on this carpet! Apparently nothing could stop the Gap heirs to fund this project, not even a petition and a lawsuit. I hope we all come to our senses soon and stop exposing our children to these...
Read moreFirst off, wow this place is amazing. I don't know how old the artificial turf is but it looks brand new. The seating is awesome for spectators and there is a bathroom and parking. It appears to be ADA compliant. I was afraid that I wouldn't find a parking spot because it was my first time there on a Sunday. Of course a bunch of the streets were closed, so it took me a while to get on the right street. But I quickly found street parking really close by. When I walked into the parking lot I realized there were spots in there but I was too excited to actually see a spot so I never even looked. I was definitely lucky that the weather was perfect, but it is amazing to see that huge windmill. I realized after our soccer game that the Beach Chalet restaurant was nearby. Next time I might have to stop by there...
Read moreVery nice place. My brother had a soccer tournament the weekend past. I like how their fields are numbered so you know where to go. There's a small food stand which was great for some snanks. But our teams family decided to do a BBQ. We used one of the BBQ grills that were there on sight. Theres like 3 with their one tables. Awesome for the nice weather. And since we had 2-3 hrs in between games, it was great. Parking is rare. The parking lot was pretty small for all the people that may go. We had to park 2 blocks away. Cars were lined all the way down. And a few cars before us had the misfortune to get broken into so beware on having too much in sight. Looks like it was a fam on vacation so they had...
