Like many people from San Jose, I have patronized A Bite of Wyoming with family since I was young. With that in mind, I genuinely want it to succeed but unfortunately, my most recent experience there has prompted me to not return for the foreseeable future.
While the restaurant is not known for an upscale atmosphere (which I personally love), the food is great and moderately priced. It’s a no-frills diner with patrons from all walks of life, what more can you want of an East San Jose institution?
In terms of service, while the women who run it can sometimes feel rough around the edges, I’ve always appreciated their direct and efficient manner in our interactions. However, during my most recent visit for breakfast my girlfriend and I were approached by a male server who has a consistently rude and unapproachable demeanor. On other occasions, I have chosen to simply look past his attitude, I mean, we all have our off days. Upon arrival, my girlfriend and I entered the restaurant in conversation and it was early enough that there were plenty of available booths so I assumed, yet asked him, if we could sit anywhere. With a look of annoyance, he obliged. Once seated, we ordered a coffee and apple juice. Upon bringing the drinks and carelessly setting them on the table, I very clearly thanked him to which he ignored me and walked away without taking our food order, much less even asking if we were ready. At this point, I decided to leave as it was obvious to me that this individual felt as if he was being inconvenienced and I questioned why I would continue subjecting myself to this quality of service.
I’m a fairly understanding individual but unfortunately, I can no longer justify receiving substandard service at A Bite of Wyoming. When a restaurant doesn’t have much of a view, that leaves service and food to be the remaining benchmarks by which it can be judged. Unfortunately, A Bite of Wyoming is missing the...
Read moreI always had take out and enjoyed the food. I never dinned in, today went in with my family. We are a mixed family my husband is Black I am Mexican, so our girls are Blaxican. It was busy but the male server that sat us was very friendly. However the lady was a whole other story. She came to take our order and was very short and seem to be in a annoyed mood. I ordered food for both girls followed with my order. All smooth flowing. As my husband ordered he asked for the full stack 2 eggs bacon. She kept interrupting saying you want the pancake sandwich(which is a short stack 1 egg 1 meat side) he replied no I would like it tha way...she turned up her nose and quickly turned to walk away. We waited and waited and waited. After a lengthy wait the food came. We did miss some items I would call her and she would acknowledge but never came so I had to ask another. When the bill came it was hard to make out. And had all kinds of totals. So we double checked the total. And didn't seem to add up. And it didn't. So he asked her. Did you add tip. What is this. 2 orders for oj one priced 4.25 then under said sn.oj 13.25. Then 7up 300.a line and 59.67 another line 61 then 71.59 circled as total. She explained that it was because we ordered 2 orange juices. We didn't my daughter had kids apple husband had o.j. I had sprite/7up. So yes bill was wrong. He paid the total circled but let her know it was wrong and we knew and felt her racism. But because we have 2 girls that need to know what to do in this case. Is to be the bigger person not to give it power and let it affect us. I am certainly sure not to ever bring my business nor recommend it again. Though it made my tummy turn to go through this ignorance. I hate to have my loved ones be mistreated as such. Especially my babies....they have done...
Read moreAs a native South Bay resident, and after 4 and a half decades of eating breakfast all over, I finally made time to try this place out. After hearing about it for so long, and having an idea of what to expect, this five star review is fitting….also, my faith in humanity was slightly restored during my visit…I’ll come back to that. Being decades old and an East San Jose staple, and with its name and decor, I made sure to order a side of gravy for my biscuits, and they weren’t bashful on the bowl of gravy….and the breakfast was tasty with plenty for leftovers…for me today it was the service that I experienced in a couple of cool ways that solidified 5stars. My direct service was friendly, swift and felt like home. The staff was attentive and courteous to say the least. Indirectly I was there to witness a young man who ordered and ate, and after packing his leftovers, asked if he could return in 30 minutes to pay for his meal. Reluctantly the staff said yes and collected his info as he left. While it easily could’ve been a straight up dine and ditch sitch, and the staff seemed to take the high road in allowing the fella to simply leave knowing it could be a loss, sure enough in less than 30 minutes the young man returned and paid in full. This alone contributed to my own feeling about humans and the intent we sometimes have. The feeling I had while watching the workers faces as the dude leaves was miserable (and I almost told them to add his meal to my bill), to my own internal warmth when the dude returned and was a person of their word…this was refreshing and reminded me that good folks are indeed out there. All because I visited a Bite of Wyoming…full belly, snack for later, and faith...
