A Slice of the Mediterranean Right Next to Silicon Valley.
There's this place, an quick-service, order at the counter, get your stuff, and sit. And there's another place like this that's a more casual dining, table service place. Both do it well, serve similar foods, and your choice of either should depend on how much you want to be taken care of and how fancy you want to be.
I ordered the Lamb Shwarma ($15), you can get is as a wrap (with toasty lavash) or with pita (that is homemade), it comes with an herb-tahini, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, pickles, and parsley; and served with a choice of a side (I went with the Lentil soup). Other choices are hummus, fries, tabouli, falafel, salad, rice, babaghanouge, spiced carrots and walnuts, or pomegranate eggplant and walnuts. Also, if you want to go nuts, you can “Style Your Dish” with additional accoutrements for $3 more; I went with the Greek and added roasted bell peppers, grilled onions and mushrooms, and feta cheese. My wife ordered the Falafel Wrap ($12.50), it comes with an tahini, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, pickles, and parsley; and she got a side of babaghanouge. She styled her dish as Jerusalem and added hummus, grilled eggplant, and cauliflower. As far as Mediterranean food goes, it's one of her favorite cuisines and she said this was in her top two and would eat here once a week. The kids ordered the Chicken Shwarma Wrap ($13.50), it comes with garlic yogurt, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, pickles, and parsley; and they got a side of rice. They styled it as South of the Border and added black beans, avocado, and cilantro. They were so quiet when they ate; it was a beautiful scene. They loved it.
You have the option of adding additional sauces at their condiment bar: spicy chili, chipotle tahini, Greek yogurt, and/or cilantro lime. All were delicious. My only complaint were dirty pint glasses (check the pic); I ordered two points and both had crusties on the outside. Not a big deal, but a little gross. Overall it was a good experience with good food and I would recommend this place for a gyro, shawarma, or other...
Read moreYesterday (Saturday May 1) my family and I went here for lunch. We haven't been back since January and my daughter was craving their yogurt sauce. We've been coming here since they opened here in North San Jose. We ordered 2 plates: chicken shawarma with freekeh, falafel balls and hummus. and a plate of chicken kebab with everything separate (for my daughter), freekeh with falafel and fries.
I'm not sure if the stars aligned or the energies of the universe got channeled nearby or if it was the beginning of my daughter's birthday month, but the food was exceptional! Really really good.
The chicken shawarma was excellent, my daughter ate 2 servings of the kebab, the hummus was light and delicate! However the standout for us where the falafel balls, they were just outstanding. On this day they were not like any other day, they were hot and airy golden balls of goodness today. Paired with their Chipotle tahini sauce and a little garlic yogurt sauce they were incredible.
Now that I know how the meal can be at Dish N Dash I'm a little disappointed at all the other meals we've had here. I hope to come back soon and see if they can maintain this high level of quality food.
I will definitely keep you advised either way!
My only one tiny draw back was that the state is still under COVID restrictions, limited indoor seating and you have to ask for everything including little itty bitty portions of their sauces (that we would normally drink while we dined).
Overall I would recommend and I hope you have as wonderful an experience as my family...
Read moreI love the full service restaurants of Dish n Dash, but I think a few things, that damage the overall Dish n Dash quality image, need to change in the counter service restaurant of Dish n Dash at this location.
This restaurant gets really busy around lunch time, Monday- Friday. Knowing this, before one such day couple of months ago, I went there around 11:45 am before there was a line forming outside, and placed my order To Go. It was a completely full big bag and impossible to see what was what inside. When I came home, I realized that one soup was missing.
The second incident was last Saturday, we went there around 4 pm. There were only 2 people seated at one table. No other guests. We ordered two hot dishes, 2 juice drinks. We were told that it would take 20 min. The meal was ready in 20 min as promised, but the rice was cold, hubby's vegetables were burnt on the edges and raw in the middle.
I may be old fashioned when it comes to the representation of a brand in the presence of patrons, but I find the overall attitude at this location to be lax -unlike the full service restaurants of Dish n Dash. Particularly during food ordering at the cash register; not speaking distinctly using appropriate voice and twirling the numbered table markers while taking order... what a show of boredom or...
