Food is great for simple food you can find anywhere, nothing to go out of your way for but I'll echo the other reviews for this place in that it's a hidden gem. Outside perspective it's a hole in the wall but the moment you walk in, there's laughter and joking with customers. Someone had placed an online pickup order and the lady had joked, why'd you take so long? I made this fresh for you. He apparently couldn't find parking.
My experience, I didn't see anyone working but someone came up to greet me from the tables. He was busy cleaning it off for the next customers but greeted me immediately and came to the front; very friendly and out going staff.
I rarely eat Chinese food because it's a bit oily for my taste so unfortunately I can only compare it to places like Panda Express; in which case Ume wins.
I got the fried rice, basil tofu and orange chicken. Basil tofu had a smoked charcoal grill taste to it, not sure if it was intentional but I liked it. Also mine came out fresh. The orange chicken was my favorite because of the texture. At other places I feel like they're either rock hard and chewy or soft and mushy. This place does it just right. As I type this review on my phone 20mins later, the chicken has not hardened nor changed texture which is wonderful. I tried their taro milk tea, flavorful but I'm not a fan of the boba bits as they're a bit too squishy. I know this is preference tho as my sister loves softer and chewy boba. Something I noticed was the amount of onion they used? Weird but most places overload their vegetables with onions, this place Does Not. I really have no complaints about this place. Maybe their chili oil on the table to have more umami flavor and more customers who come in because it's a bit underrated here. I really hope you guys do well, will be back sometime soon.
P.S. the environment here is so welcoming a little bird came hopping around on the floor which I thought was...
Read moreWe've heard of Ume's quite awhile ago but never had a chance to try them until today.
We arrived @ 11:30 AM for an early lunch. Although their weekend offerrings are not as extensive as their regular week day offerings there was still a good variety to pick from for us to choose from. I opted for their Vegetable Chow Mien & Fried Rice along with Tufu & Vegetables plus Chicken in Black Bean Sauce. It was a very enjoyable meal and I highly recommend these dishes. Their Customer Service was excellent, very professional, prompt, friendly, & courteous, while their Restroom is one of the best maintained by far of any restaurant regardless of status. A definite good lunch eating...
