Update: We went back a 2nd time for dinner and were dissapointed. I really expected the BBQ to be outstanding and it was dry and the portions small for the price. So I removed a star for food quality. The service is still super slow but the atmosphere is nice. We went to La Hacienda Parilla for breakfast. I don't know why I have not been here sooner? The atmosphere, food and music are great! I love the decor, the paintings of Latino icons and the modern latin music playing. We ordered a couple of the eggs benedicts - Classico w/ham and the California w/bacon. The third option had carnitas which the waiter brought me a sample to try and I would definitely get the carnitas benedict the next time. They don't have orange juice but many other exotic fruit options such as mango, mora, feijoa, curuba, etc... I had to Google every one of these except mango. They of course have Colombian coffee.
The lunch and dinner menu looks great and they were cooking wood-grilled meats for the afternoon which looked amazing. I hope to return soon to try those. On a side note, I have to give kudos to the graphic designer who created the menu. It is the most visually beautiful menu I've ever seen.
Actually, I'm glad I haven't come before because they got bad reviews when they first opened but it looks like they've made improvements and built a nice patio since then. The service is still very slow, albeit friendly. We had to go up to the counter to get a waiter to take our order and then again when it was time to pay.
It's located on Alum Rock Avenue just before the Mexican Heritage Plaza on the same side and they have a free parking lot in back. And just a reminder this is Colombian food not...
Read moreDON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY, it's not worth it at all. I had a very bad experience at this restaurant. I went with a relative who was celebrating his birthday. You can try very fresh llanera meat and that's where the deception begins. We ordered a $50 snack. , 2 plates of sancocho $0 for 2, and a pitcher of lemonade $12. in total 82 before taxes, the snack arrived at the table and it was terrible, at the beginning the whole snack was cold, the meat was the opposite of what they gave us at the entrance, it was too dry, the chorizo seemed sour from the day before, I make the I complained and they didn't like it, they became defensive and they only changed the meat and it was fresh, the loven was rude, she said that if she didn't like the meat there was nothing they could do, in addition to the exaggerated payment they charge you 2 additional fees about the taxes, which are a service charge and the other a trading fee, is it serious? They are abusive, I will never return, in the end I paid the large sum of $98, something exaggerated, I saw other clients complaining about...
Read moreStopped by with a friend to eat at this spot; first time experiencing Colombian food. Waitress didn't speak any English so couldn't ask her what was good so went with what my friend was getting being he's a regular; salad rice fries piece of chicken breast. She brought out one plate and placed the plate to me and gestured his plate would be up next. My plate was served warm, not sizzling hot or anything. The chicken breast was dry and Jerky like (so dry I needed ice water to get it down), the rice was cold dry and hard, the fries bland, the cup of salad condiments was the only thing acceptable imo. Waitress never returned to check on us even though it was a slow Friday evening, only until my friend asked her what's going on with his plate 30 minutes later that she said we only ordered one plate? Another 20-30 minutes later he got his plate and I tried a piece of his chicken which seemed to be much more fresh and juicy. Maybe it's a hit or miss thing, but I'd pass on trying this...
