I was excited to see this shop while driving by! If you aren’t familiar, Kwality serves Indian ice creams and desserts, like falooda.
Some interesting Indian flavors, if you haven’t tried before, include: paan masala (a sweet, herbal-y mouth freshener made with fennel and rose), sitaphal (custard apple), rajbhog (cardamom, saffron, based on the creamy rasmalai dessert), kesar pista (saffron & pistachio), tutti frutti, and more. There’s also some nice tropical flavors like mango, coconut and lychee, and traditional ones like butterscotch, Ferraro Rocher, cookies & cream, etc.
I got a small serving (~$6) which comes with two scoops! Mango was nearly sold out, so lychee and coconut it was. The lychee ice cream was one of the best ones I’ve had, creamy with nice chunks of lychee. Coconut was more intense in flavor and had coconut flakes. Both weren’t overly sweet - I enjoyed them a lot!
We also got a slice of malai kulfi (~$6), which normally comes as part of the falooda. Amazing!!! Tasted just like in India with that roasted-toasted, cooked-down, caramelized cream flavor and slight chew. There were also bits of ground cardamom, though I wish they were slightly more distributed throughout the slice. Overall, really delicious and we wish they sold the kulfi in stick format :) I think it’d be a nice nostalgic touch! IMO, Pints of Joy and Koolfi Creamery, while also lovely places you should check out, don’t carry that same flavor.
Parking is free & ample and located inside the structure through an entrance around the corner.
Some new business suggestions: it’d be wonderful to have a small table inside, or at least a bar counter by the window. There’s a wall to sit on outside near the shop otherwise. Some light music might also add to...
Read moreOn a Sunday afternoon I was looking for a sweet treat and happed upon Kwality Ice Cream! Kwality Ice Cream is an ice cream chain with locations all over the United States focusing on delivering both high quality ice cream, and specializing in cassta, kulfi, and eggless ice cream cakes. Although they do serve some of the traditional tried and true ice cream flavors like cookies and cream, their unique south Asian take provides an added dimension to the flavors of this traditional American dessert.
Their San Jose location is conveniently located across from the San Jose Flea Market within The Platform Luxury Apartments, which offers plenty of retail parking spaces for those looking for a sweet treat. Upon walking in to the store, patrons are greeted with two cases of ice cream flavors to peruse and sample as needed.
I arrived nearer to the end of the day, so unfortunately some of their flavors like Lychee were unavailable; however, I did sample their mango and found it delicious and decided to get a kid's scoop of it! There's a few tables and chairs in the store if you'd like to sit inside and enjoy your ice cream, otherwise you can easily take it to go and enjoy it as you stroll around the area. I found the flavor of their mango ice cream very natural and reminiscent of a mango lassi (although I'm not sure if that was their intention).
If you're near the San Jose area and looking for some ice cream to enjoy, then I recommend giving Kwality Ice...

Service was great; the worker let us try samples of a lot of the flavors, many of which I hadn’t had before (like Cassata, Kulfi, Saffron, etc) in addition to your classic American flavors. The worker did a great job of guiding our tasting based on our likes!
They have ice cream sandwiches (3 flavors of ice cream and a layer of cake), ice cream cakes, their own version of a Sundae- type dessert, and pints available!
Parking; free retail parking in the garage or street parking
Location: across the street from sj...
