I can’t believe I’ve lived in San Jose for 23 years and never been to Puerta del Sol! I’ve been missing out! This place is such a gem.
We were here on a Monday night around 7pm. The restaurant is located in a spacious strip mall with ample parkings and next to DICK’s Sporting Goods. It has a cute, yellow-flower-bundle decorated outdoor seating area with sting lights. That’s why they’re listed as dog friendly.
The inside of the restaurant looks clean, tidy and nicely decorated with a bar area and yellow/beige color theme. There are interesting Spanish-theme paintings along the wall.
The owner and his staff were friendly and warmly greeted us right away. He went over which dishes were his favorite to give you some recommendations, which I appreciated. You scan the QR code to access the most updated menu online. But if you prefer, paper menu would be available for you as well, though it might not be as up to date as the online version.
We started to smell the food before they even came out. It smelt heavenly delicious 😋! Our food came out fast!
These are what we ordered:
Croquetas de setas y trufa - 4 Croquets bechamel creamy sauce, oyster mushrooms with truffle. They melt in your mouth and super savory!
Pan Tumaca - Toasted bread topped with crushed fresh tomato, olive oil and sea salt (not pictured). So simple yet so yummy. The baguette bread slices were perfectly toasted and went well together with the fresh-tomato-olive-oil spread! Perfect!!
Chuletas de cordero - 3 Lamb chops marinated in spices, served over labneh, saffron pear cous cous garnished with raisins, arugula. Another PERFECTION!!! The lam chops were made perfectly at medium-rare level and the mixed salad served with it was a master piece itself too!
• Pulpo - grilled octopus served over smooth potato and paprika puree with potato millefeuille. One of my favorites!!! We divulged this dish so FAST LOL
And finally, the • Paella de Pulpo y Vieiaa - made with a rich Lobster broth, bomba rice and nora sofrito and with calamari, octopus, scallops and clams!! No words can be used to describe how much we LOVE this paella!! The best in town yet! We all licked the pan clean haha
Indeed, we licked all the dishes we tried here CLEAN!! SO YUMMY!!
Overall, nice ambiance, friendly and attentive staff, amazing food! Price is reasonable as well! I’ll definitely come back here for special occasions...
Read moreFinally a very good Spanish restaurant in the Blossom Valley area. As a newly opened restaurant, with some modifications to the operation this place will rival the foofoo joints in Los Gatos. The food was excellent. The few specialty cocktails offered were yummy. Extensive selection of nice Spanish wines. Highly recommend with some caveats: Ambiance was ok...No mood lighting...just typical boring fluorescent white lights. Better lightings would kick up the dining experience a notch. Waiters were friendly, but we have a recommendation for the management: Please bring the dishes out in a timely manner, and not all at once. We were a party of 2 who ordered 8 dishes, and there isn't room on the small table to fit them all but you jam packed the table any way. Don't you want people to enjoy and order more wines/drinks? It felt as if you wanted us to just eat all the food really quickly and leave? We will be back, but next time we will order 2 dishes...
Read morePuerta Del Sol in South San Jose is a fantastic new addition to the dining scene! From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the warm, inviting atmosphere and exceptional service. Andreas, our server, was friendly, attentive, and made great recommendations.
The food and drinks were not only delicious but also beautifully presented. Every dish was a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. We went for the special squid ink paella, which was perfectly prepared. The gambas were cooked to perfection and incredibly fresh. The sangria and cocktails were just as impressive, both in taste and presentation.
We’re so glad to see new restaurants like Puerta Del Sol coming to South San Jose. We’ll definitely be back for more....
