SGD Tofu House San Jose — Restaurant in San Jose

We just stopped in for a Friday night dinner with my family. We called ahead and they were able to put our name on the list. When we arrived there were only a few people sitting in the waiting area ahead of us. Our name was called shortly after so that was good we didn't have to wait long.

We were able to decide on our food order quickly because they gave us menus while we were waiting. We ordered a variety of food from stir fry udon noodles, to tofu soup, Kalbi, and stone pot.

The side dishes came out right away while we waited for our food. I had to ask for forks and plates for the kids at the front counter because the staff didn't come around for a while.

Our food came out nice and hot. All the food was very tasty.

We tried to ask for more side dishes but one of the ladies said she would come back later. She kind of brushed us off. Later we had to ask another lady. She finally brought some more side dishes out but wasn't very friendly about it and threw it on the table.

As we had a lot of food left over, I had to ask them for some boxes at the front counter and they didn't come by again after we got the bill. I asked for a few boxes and she responded by you have to pay for your bill. I told her I already paid and she mumbled something I couldn't understand. I asked for a few boxes and she kind of gave them to me unhappily.

Overall, the food was good, the wait time was reasonable, but the service could have greatly improved. On the plus side the guy working there seem to be pretty friendly...

Bad customer service. In general, it's not the best, but something you can get over. However, as someone who has always tipped here, usually in cash, I was bothered by how rude they were with tipping. My group split the check, and the waitress came and checked each receipt individually in front of us, and then said, "No, tip is not included in final price. You must include tip." And then set the receipts back down with a pen and walked away. I understand tipping culture, which I why we brought cash, but normally I've always left it on the table when I leave without an issue. We ended up tipping individually on the receipt, rather than leaving cash behind, but it just bothered us at how rude she said it. The food is good, the price is a little steep, but with how bad the customer service is, in my opinion you can find equally good food elsewhere, with hopefully...

Good food, terrible service, gave me dirty bowl, stingy with napkins, put water containers on tables instead of walking around refilling for customers even when it is not busy, stood there chitchat instead of checking on customers if they need more napkins or water. Very bad attitude, make me and my family feel very uncomfortable almost like we ruined their day or something. I came here 4 times to see if there is any improvement. I decided this is the last time I visit this place. I expect better service for this kind of money. I came here because it is near my home. I guess I have to go to el camilo real for korean...
