Location: is great right in the heart of the alum Rock business district.
Parking: limited parking space.
Service: good service. The owner themself has been spotted on the floor taking orders and being an active leader amongst the staff I applaud this behavior.
Price: avrage-below average. Affordable for a sushi restaurant but expensive compared to the Average in the area.
Atmosphere: is nice, a mix of cozy, classical, modern and the place is clean.
food diversity: This restaurant offers specialized rolls, hand rolls, nigiri, sashimi, bento boxes, teriyaki, and tempura. Beverages: sake, beer, soda, water, tea. Food quality: (this is where my review gets more complicated) The raw fish is top quality. 5stars definitely will return again for their nigiri sashimi or simplified roles without sauces.
However I have some minor complaints nothing world shattering but mostly due to my own personal taste I suppose.
For example they're Lion King which at most other sushi restaurants across San Jose that I have been to is made with a spicy mayo, at this restaurant that is made with a plain house made mayo. Well it was creamy and delicious it locked the spicy punch of flavor that this roll is known for essentially it did not have its growl/claws as a lion.
major complaint soy sauce. This restaurant only stocks low sodium soy sauce you cannot get regular soy sauce even if asked for and there's low sodium soy sauce even taste water down on top of its normally lacking flavor green cap. It's just not salty enough to compliment the fish and feels almost like you're partially pouring water onto your dish.
Teriyaki. Extremely disappointing. Well the teriyaki sauce is thick. It is very flavorless. Matching the lack of salt lack of flavor and disappointment of their soy sauce. Well they may give you large portions if you are disappointed through the entire dish you might get full but you're going to be disappointed and your mouth is going to be left wanting.
Tempura and tempura sauce. The batter and the sauce were excellent . The shrimp and the zucchini were perfect. however the carrot was sliced so thick and undercooked that it was raw and I was unable to bite through it. I also noticed at the time during their opening week numerous other individuals left part of their tempura uneaten when they finish their meal.
The base of so many fancy roles is a California roll I found their California roll to be above average in quality very delicious and a item I will repeat in the future.
The salad comes in the bento was still a bit damp from having been washed and the dressing was a little bit lackluster missing some amount of sesame flavor or something so it felt or tasted watered down on top of the fact that the lettuce was still a bit watery.
The tea was good but served a pinch too hot if you're not careful you could burn yourself this I feel is not the fault of the restaurant so much as the precautionary warning to its customers.
I like the way they present a giant water bottle so that you can refill your own cup.
The boiled soybeans were fine but could have benefited from being sprinkled with a little bit of salt.... Like so many other restaurants do.
Conclusion Will I be returning in the future? Yes. But . . . I will likely be sticking to the nigiri sashimi and simple rolls without sauces. Bringing in my own regular soy sauce with normal amount of salt to a completely they're delicious and high quality raw fish, simplified rules without sauce such as the double hamachi roll for example and...
Read moreAs a cook, sometimes i want sushi to start my weekend on wednesday. I seen this building changed business several times, and now it is a sushi place. Only 1-2 minutes away from home via car, it doesn't get better than this.
It is nice to have a sushi place very close to home! I love cream cheese and this place makes it for sushi, it is major plus for me. So far it has been near top satisfaction. Only con is when it gets busy and parking spaces.
My top recommendation is Golden Eye Roll, followed by Bay Lobster roll, both cooked sushi. I recommend getting side of rice and pour all the left over juices onto the rice. Leave nothing wasted!
Honestly no complaints. Service is great. Food is right up there. No business is perfect. I had few inconsistencies, but not major. I had two sub-par food experience out of the 12+ visits, few times with my sister.
I think it was my third visit, it was the Dragon roll, burned tempura. It was unsatisfactory. I should have brought it up, but i didnt. At later visit, my sister ordered it and it was good, cooked perfectly. I considered this redeemed.
The other, I always order Philadelphia rolls. If there is any inconsistencies when i always order something, this would be it and I experienced it only once. I came in the evening from work for the first time, it was busy, which is nice to see, but the Philadelphia roll was not made correctly and somewhat falling apart. It was also made by someone else rather than the usual one I have mine made.
I shall continue visiting this as long there is open parking, else it's straight home from work! Support this business by visiting, but if you do go at noon, make sure you are done by lunch...
Read moreMy wife and I were there for today's grand opening. I have to say that everything was absolutely delicious! The rolls, sashimi, chicken teriyaki, and miso soup were wonderfully presented, freshly prepared, and scrumptious. This is only a short distance from where I live, so I no longer have to make the trek to Evergreen (Yuri and Gin Ga Sushi) to get my Japanese food urges satisfied. This is a family run business who's mantra is to make you leave happy at an affordable price. They easily check both boxes. I wish them nothing but success in this new location.
Update - 7/16/24. Tonight I was invited to partake in a Beta Test for what might be called, "The Sushi Town Experience". While the actual details are still being worked out, our group was treated to a multitude of different foods including cooked items like lamb chops, salmon, and fried calamari. We were also treated to raw oysters with quail eggs!! I was able to make my own California Rolls, and the whole experience was topped off with a sushi boat filled with a variety of delicious sashimi. Looks like this will be done more regularly starting some time in the fall. I was told to watch keep a look out on their website for future information.
Meanwhile, I eat there pretty regularly with various friends and family. The combination plates are so generous. (If you are a chicken katsu fan, there is probably close to a pound of chicken in your meal). Definitely the place to go whether you live in the...
