THE FOOD HERE WAS TERRIBLE! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. GO ELSEWHERE. Kickin Crab is so so so so so much better!
Here are some reasons not to come here.
Terrible customer service The dictator guy at the front will not sit you unless your whole group is there. Even if you tell him, the driver is parking, he won't sit you. Feels like this place has changed ownership and is now owned by North Koreans. The crawfish was not fresh. We requested for fresh live crawfish but got crawfish that taste and looked like there were frozen and died long before they were cooked. $18/lb They were cheap with the crawfish sauce. There was very little sauce in the bag. The sauce had no love. It was very salty. There were no corns or sausages in there. Other crayfish restaurants always include corn and sausages. They wanted to charge $7 for one sausage to be cut up and put in the bag. The deep fried oysters were old. Some of the oysters tasted rotten. Instead of deep frying whole oysters, they cut them in pieces to look like you are getting more but in actuality they are ripping you off. They used soggy old crab meat from a can for the crabbie fries. It didn't taste good. They should be using fresh crab especially with a name like Boiling Crab. THIS PLACE IS SUPER CHEAP- They don't give you plates to eat on and want you to eat off the table. They should at least offer plates for those who want to use them. They leave the women's restroom door wide open. This is not right. You have to walk past the women's restroom in order to get the men's restroom. As people are walking by, they can see the women inside the stalls. This is wrong. The women's restroom should always remain closed especially if men have to walk past it to get to the men's restroom. I am surprised that the women that go to this restaurant hasn't complain about this.
Only the water was good here.
MY FAMILY AND I WILL NOT COME BACK HERE EVER AGAIN. WE WOULD RATHER GO TO KICKIN CRAB ACROSS THE STREET. The only reason why we came here was because Kickin Crab was closed at 9 and we wanted to celebrate the Warriors winning game 5 of the finals.
BOY, WERE WE DISAPPOINTED. $78 FOR SOME NASTY FOOD:(
DON'T USE YOUR CREDIT CARD HERE. THE LAST TIME I USED MY CREDIT CARD AT THE BOILING CRAB AT THE PLANT, THEY STOLE MY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION- the next day, someone in San Diego, used the credit card information and charged over $1,000 at the Apple store. I hadn't used this credit for many months. I used it for a to go order and then then it got stolen. PAY WITH CASH to prevent them stealing your credit card information.
I noticed that the cooks in the back were all Mexicans. Perhaps that is why the taste of the food is off. I will stick with Kickin...
Read moreI don't think there's anything I love eating more than seafood. I know all of my favorite fishes, crustaceans, and mollusks down to the exact species. I also enjoy eating with my hands so this place is on my good side already. I've been to the Boiling Crab in Garden Grove a few times, and I recently ate here on my friend's birthday. I would say this location is pretty comparable with the original. To sum up Boiling Crab, the sauce they make is good, but the seafood quality isn't always consistent.
Sauce - I've only had Whole Sha-Bang, and it's pretty tasty. It's rich, well seasoned, and can be as spicy as you want it. There's a big hit of garlic and celery seed/celery salt. Hmmm...I think it's the big celery seed flavor that sets Boiling Crab's sauce apart from other garbage bag seafood places.
Shrimp - I think every time I've been to BC, our meals have been mostly shrimp. I like them better than the crawfish. They're sweet and have a firm, smooth texture. However, it's not hard to run into bad ones that are hard to peel, rough, and/or chalky. They also tend to overcook in the bag so you have to eat them fast.
Dungeness Crab - I think the meat of Dungeness Crab is a bit too delicate to pair with the sauce. The subtle flavor and sweetness gets lost in the sauce's heaviness. On the plus side, the rich crab innards/fat/yellow goop makes a pretty tasty treat when scooped up with the sauce.
King Crab Legs - I've only had these at the Garden Grove location, but I don't feel like writing another review so I'll just talk about them here. They were always overcooked to oblivion. I would stay away from them unless you like stringy rubber. I won't factor this into San Jose's rating.
Clams - BC probably makes clams most consistently out of all the seafood they offer. Clams work well with more heavy handed ingredients, like in chowders and thick sauces. It makes sense that the clammy sweetness and chewiness also holds up well in the rich, spicy Sha-Bang sauce. Be sure to eat them fast so they don't overcook.
Corn - Although I love seafood, I think the corn is the best part of BC. The sauce seeps into all the crevices in between the kernels, and each bite smothers your taste buds in a gushing burst of flavor. They should just change their name to The Boiling Corn.
TL;DR: Good sauce. Ok seafood. Get corn. Wear old...
Read moreBought to go for my Daughter who wanted Crayfish. I grew up in Louisiana went to many a Crawfish boil in my youth, even know the right way to catch enough on your own for a small party. So I paid more for fresh vs frozen the taste/texture is different. Asked the young woman who took the order and she told me the Crayfish were from from SE Texas or Louisiana. Correct answer! SE Texas, central and southern Louisiana are the most economically viable areas of the US to farm Crayfish. Wanted to ask the Server more questions but they were busy and had a job to do and make a living. She was in her 20s, Asian, likely Vietnamese and/ or Chinese, likely has never traveled to these areas of the US. She was well informed and did her job very well. Had 1 pound of Crayfish, medium spice, corn and sausage. Took to my ex-wifes house (Vietnamese) where my 16 year old daughter lives. Ate a few Crawfish, very good, but it was mostly for my Daughter, ex-wife, and sister in law (my Sister, learned long ago that when you marry another human you actually marry a family, that is right and true. Divorce doesn't change that. Just because the couple can't work things out, the Family ties do not suddenly disappear, the Vietnamese Family I married, is still and always will be my Family) After thinking on this changed my rating to 5 star and will visit this restaurant...
