This rating was for our visit on Thursday December 14th 2017. We came in around 5:30 pm. This was our first visit and we were excited when we first walked in to hear a band getting ready to play, although we asked to sit as far away from the band as possible in order to enjoy our conversation. Our server was nice enough and got our drinks and appetizers order quickly. But when we placed our dinner order we asked for them to wait to bring our main course since we had appetizers and salads on the way. We were part way through our appetizers when the salads arrived. A minute later our main course arrived. We were shocked and question the people who brought out the food. Of course they knew nothing about it and so we flag down our server and asked her. She said that the kitchen was putting out the food fast in anticipation of being very busy. As if we don't matter but subsequent customers that evening do. Oh and I forgot to mention a pizza showed up with our salads as well but we didn't mind that so much. Needless to say our main courses were cold by the time we got to them. The wait staff had offered to take the food back to the kitchen and put it under hot lights til we were ready but that really sounded gross. This whole dining experience was ruined. It could have been great if the server did her job correctly and communicated with the kitchen. It's unfortunate because the food was actually very good and we would have liked to come back again but feel as if they don't care. We spent over...
Read moreI went in to the San Juan Capistrano location today with my family. Never have I been so embarrassed in my life. I sent my husband to the restroom to change our baby, he came back and said they don't have a changing table. So I asked the host (Damien) do you guys have changing tables? He said no. So I descreetly changed my baby In the bench in the front of the restaurant on a changing mat with both my daughter and husband were covering me so that no one even knew what I was doing. When the host loudly said mam what are you doing? You can't do that here.. That's insane. And so rudely Basically put me on the spot. Not only himself causing a scene but basically yelling at me. I had no other choice I needed to change her. Mind you it was only pee. I then went up to him asking for his manager. I then told him (Josh) I've never been so humliated in life. I was disrespect embarrassed and insulted. The host had no right to talk to me that way. Even if I did something wrong there are so many other ways to handle the situation. Customers near by couldn't believe how he was yelling at me and causing a scene. This is a family oriented restaurant. Kids everywhere . You would think they had a changing table. Which by the way I later found out from a waitress the women restroom had a...
Read moreFood was just fine. Nothing exceptional, but fine. Don't expect anything better than a TV dinner. Scaled with the price proportionally, which is a rarity in the Mission area of SJC.
The atmosphere however is very lacking (extremely loud), and the service barely makes up for it, as they themselves get too rambunctious to be considered polite. Additionally, several front desk workers gazed expectantly at my girlfriend and I numerous times as we were waiting to be seated, but despite our body language heavily insinuating that we ready to be seated, we received not so much as a "we'll be right with you, thank you." Just blank stares. There was one lady however that was very friendly, so we appreciated the respectful demeanor.
Unfortunately, our waitress was not so kind. She acted nice but the way she glared at us and other patrons was condescending and offensive. We were barely done with our food and she rudely slapped a payment tray onto our table without asking us if we were done.
In addition to not feeling very welcome, the food was poor to just okay. By the second slice I could tell the crust was reheated and was so appalled I could not finish it.
Overall Selma's is definitely not a place I'd recommend for good food, and definitely don't expect the service to...
