Editing my review after a few extra visits/chances. Pastries are still sadly hit or miss, had some one day that were perfect and then another day they're super dry. Consistency with the pastry quality is something that needs improving. As for the sandwiches, so far I've yet to have a bad one, from chicken sandwiches to beef steak they've been incredibly good. I'm aware on some of the inconsistency with sandwiches too, but my experience has been good so far.
Tried some of the cakes and although I didn't like some of them (flavor or consistency) they were coked well, being moist and not hard or dry, just some of them weren't my preference. Coffee was good too, but only had it once. Favorite thing on the menu by far are the cheese croquettes, they're always delicious, even when they're cold.
Now, regarding actual meals, I've only had them twice. Although pricy ($16 to $17) they were both quite good, on both times I ate some mince meat with rice and sweet plantains, delicious. Service wise, the young lady who works the register some nights has been very kind and lovely to me, excellent service on her part. The cooks and I'm guessing supervisor have also been very kind all times I've gone, so I must admit my initial review was too harsh due to the disappointment with the dry quesitos and miscellaneous pastries taken home.
Are there better options out there? Yes, there are. But if you know what to order and go at a time when they aren't overworked and rushing to get meals out, the food is quite good. Pricey though, but good. I'd say give it a try and order some of the more popular items on the menu, it's most definitely their...
Read moreThis was the most horrible experience I’ve had at a panadería/ bakery. Since we got there, the service was mediocre at best and the staff talked to us like we were nothing. We wanted to ask questions and they sighed very loudly and even scoffed. They kept raising their voices for us to make the line where there was no sign to be found saying “Make line here”. I wanted a panadería sandwich so bad and decided to try the Canapé… big mistake. First of all, when I asked the cashier what the ingredients where and what it was exactly, she didn’t know how to explain and called “the chef”. He explained and so I proceeded to order the (tuna) sandwich with everything (except onions). It only brought onions. They didn’t even asked for the bread I wanted.
When I tell you this sad and little sandwich cost $6.00 without tax, I’m not joking and I can even make one better at home. Needless to say, I went to one of the employees and told them about how I didn’t like what they gave me because it wasn’t what I ordered, they proceeded to blame one of my coworkers for the bad order, when I personally was the one who made the orden. For exchange they brought another one back, how it was supposed to be made. I’m completed unsatisfied with the food, the service and the restaurant. I was always recommended this restaurant, as it also has pastries and desserts and spoken really highly of them. But our experience was nothing but the opposite. I do not recommend this restaurant at all and I wish no one would sponsor them. I wish they can learn a bit about customer service and not disrespecting their customers as...
Read moreLa Ceiba is more than just a bakery — it’s a portal straight back to my childhood.
Every time I visit Puerto Rico, stopping here is a must. As a kid, my dad (who’s sadly no longer with us) used to take me to La Ceiba or bring home their delicious sandwiches after work — sometimes a Media Noche, sometimes a few of their irresistible pastries. Those memories are etched in my heart, and this bakery brings them back to life with every bite.
I recently visited again while spending time with my mom, and of course, I had to get a Media Noche. Let me tell you — it tasted exactly like it did 30 years ago. I also grabbed a Cubano, and wow… same experience. Their sandwiches feel homemade, like someone took the time to make it just right — you can literally taste the love.
And the coffee? Absolute perfection in a cup. Rich, smooth, and just what you need to complement all that goodness.
I’m genuinely grateful that La Ceiba is still around, still serving the community with that same heart and soul. It’s no wonder they’ve stood the test of time — great food, warm service, and a sprinkle of nostalgia in every visit.
If you’re in Puerto Rico and looking for a spot that feels like home (and tastes even better), La...
