Vera Té & Café — Restaurant in San Juan

Don’t be bamboozled by the contemporary boho decor, the service doesn’t coincide with ambiance, can’t speak much on the food as it never arrived after a couple of hrs waiting to walk out when the waiter mentioned that he never put the order in and it would be about another hr for our order to come out. Never have I been so disrespected at such a pretentious place. It’s all surface and no substance, so don’t believe the hype unless having valuable time wasted waiting for food that doesn’t arrive is your type. Can not recommend enough to steer clear of this establishment and take your money elsewhere where it will actually be valued.

Appended to address edited response: We waited for nearly two hrs before being told they put in the wrong order and had been served coffee, that’s what was provided and comped by your establishment as we attempted to exit upon learning that it would be another hour before our food would be ready. I elected to not return as it was my birthday weekend when returning the following week and didn’t want to ruin it with another unpleasant experience. I never mentioned anything about the price so not sure what you’re referencing or alluding to, yet the price should be relevant to the service and goods provided. Your place is not worth the headache of visiting. I honestly used to love this place but the food quality has gone down as well as the customer service. I always get the ahi tuna tacos for lunch and usually to go and they’re always fresh and delicious and crisp. This last week time the wontons were soggy and the fish actually tasted rancid . I called to let them know the issue and I was told to contact DoorDash when the issue clearly originated from the restaurant , and that next time they’d deconstruct it so it’s not soggy . I am very disappointed because A. I didn’t get to have lunch that day b/c I had to throw mine out for no fault of mine. B. There was no effort to reconcile the situation as if I were at fault . C. I’m a regular and though I don’t feel entitled to respect, as someone who has worked in fine dining and high caliber restaurants I expected better treatment from Vera. D. It’s not cheap, if I spend $35 on tacos and a matcha I expect it to be amazing and fixed immediately if not . I couldn’t get a refund from DoorDash or my order replaced so I just took a loss financially and lost my lunch that day .

First time doing the afternoon tea experience! It was all delicious.

The sandwiches and pastries were all divine! The tea selections were wonderful too!

My only two disappointments were not being able to try the clotted cream and service. It is advertised online, and it wasn’t ready by the time my reservation was due. I never got to try it and I’ve never had it before. I feel like it should’ve been prepared by the time the reservation was due since it’s part of the experience. Especially for the price point.

The waitress also wasn’t the most attentive. We sat down and immediately got our tray of pastries, but she didn’t come back for a long time so I could place my tea order. I didn’t even have water. The tray was left uneaten for all this time. She also said she would bring me cream cheese at one point, but she never returned. She had forgotten. There wasn’t many people either. Maybe about 3-4 other parties in the restaurant.

Besides that, everything was lovely and I will be returning eventually. I just hope next time the cream will be prepared on time and service...
