Until my friends from SF came to the South Bay to slurp some pho, I didn't realize I'd been eating fake Vietnamese pho all along. As a Southern person, I absolutely love slurping noodles, and the Vietnamese pho in the Bay Area is truly outstanding, renowned across the U.S. The South Bay is a paradise for pho lovers, with many Vietnamese people making the pho both cheap and delicious. My SF friends were amazed at how incredible Vietnamese pho can be. Here's a list of pho spots I've compiled with all my noodle-slurping expertise: 💜Pho Kim Long, though not as good after its renovation, still reigns as the pho king of the Bay Area. It has lots of high-quality beef and is affordable. Pho Ha Noi has successfully expanded with multiple branches, more refined than Kim Long but less down-to-earth. Pho 54 Pho Dao Leung Noodle specializes in dry noodles and pork bone soup. Pho Mai has average flavors but shines with its extensive menu and 4 AM closing time. Yummy Yummy has many dishes besides pho that are delicious. 🌟In San Jose, the further south you go, the less likely you are to find a bad pho spot. 💜Hue Beef Noodle Soup: Hue Restaurant is the best, with many tasty snacks. Bún Bò Huế An Nam has a rich broth, sweet taste, large portions, and is quite spicy. 💜Chicken Noodle Soup: Turtle Tower was the legend of Bay Area chicken noodle soup... not as good as before but still decent, with tender noodles and a fresh taste. (Just realized all these places are closed! Sad face 💔) East Bay Chicken Noodle Soup Chicken Noodle Soup 88, cheap, large portions, good value. Chicken Noodle Soup Family, many items on the menu are delicious. Wing Wah Chicken Noodle Soup ☝️The above are more Cantonese in flavor. 👇The following are more Vietnamese in taste, with lots of spices and toppings, generous meat portions, and sweet broth, not purely chicken soup flavor. Also includes Vietnamese Hainan chicken rice. Phở Gà Nhà has a sweet broth, super large bowl, and good chicken rice. Phở Gà An Nam's chicken is cut into neat pieces, can be paired with fried rice noodles, quite unique. Hai Nam has惊人的肉量, many toppings, and fragrant fried shallots. Pho Ha Noi's chicken pho is also decent. 💜Crab Noodle Soup: Nam Thanh Bánh Canh 3 has delicious crabmeat udon, rich broth, great texture. Que Ta Banh Canh Trang Bang crabmeat udon seafood noodles. Bún Riêu (Tomato Crab Noodle Soup) is available at the highly-rated pho spots mentioned above, all good, but the best I've had was homemade by my Vietnamese friends, even better with fresh crabmeat, easier broth than beef pho. Check out my cooking account @斯纳的投食日常 for recipes. 💜Teochew-style Vietnamese Noodle Soup: Focuses on seafood and pork, noodles can be rice or egg noodles, includes wontons and BBQ pork, fried noodles are also delicious, more Cantonese in flavor. New Tung Kee Noodle (潮记) Hai Ky (海记) Don't forget to ❤️🌟➕ this treasure list! All addresses are in the footer image. #HiddenGems #BayAreaEats #SanFrancisco

Excellent won ton soup, they get everything right: * Won Tons are chicken and shrimp. Generous amount (6-7), big and juicy with thin wrapper, firm bite and good consistency all the way through. Best won ton I've had in the East Bay * As you'd expect from a pho ga place (but can't take for granted) broth is excellent, rich and savory chicken soup. Simple but not too simple. * Egg noodles are thin type, not much to say but my favorite * Some greens would be nice like baby bok choy I also had egg rolls which were good, served with 2 interesting well make dipping sauces. Service was very friendly and welcoming. Dining atmosphere is very casual no nonsense, clean, locals type atmosphere. Overall thrilled at the quality of this dish, it's a little drive from East O but easily the best won ton soup I've found in these parts so I'll be back.

This place is a sleeper hit. We are so happy we discovered it. Their execution of chicken cooked various ways was near perfect. We had the fried whole chicken legs, the chicken offal soup, the chicken broth with hofan noodles, as well as both spring and egg rolls. The broth was exceptionally simple, yet delicious. The fried chicken was probably in the top 5 I've ever had anywhere, though it's not your typical battered deep fried variation. The shrimp spring rolls had 4 good sized shrimp in each. The prices do not even begin to reflect the quality of food, in my opinion. If I lived around this place, I'd probably eat here 3-5 times a week. Do yourself a favor and try this little gem of a restaurant.

At this establishment you order and pay at the counter. Then grab complimentary ice tea and a seat at any open tables.

Like their name indicates, their specialty is pho ga (and it seems fried chicken!). You can get a bowl of pho with a side of fried chicken! My nephew loved it.

My bf and I opted for the fried chicken rice plates. You can choose from thigh or wing; the wings plate comes with 2 pieces and an egg roll. The portion sizes are huge and it's just under $10!!! We really should have shared a plate. It comes with a side of pickled daikon and carrots, slices of cucumbers, 2 types of sauce and a bowl of broth to wash it all down. The chicken skin was legit crispy and flavorful. You really don't need the sauce but it was nice to change up the flavor profile occasionally. I absolutely loved both sauces: one is ginger and scallion oil and the other is sweet and spicy. I think the ginger is best with poached/ boiled chicken (like for the pho) and the spicy one is best for the fried chicken.

Btw, their Vietnamese coffee (cafe sua da) is legit! It's creamy and strong just like it should be.

Eric is very helpful, kind, and attentive to our needs while we dined indoors! He heard a utensil dropped and brought a new one over without us asking!!! That's above and beyond customer service. You da best Eric!

They have indoor seating with 3 tables for groups of 4 and 3 for pairs. They have 1 table for 2 in front. They staff wear masks and they have hand sanitizer all over the place, very clean and neat restaurant!

The restaurant is in a plaza with other eateries and a Asian supermarket (so convenient!) so there's a parking lot and it can get full but I've always been able to find a parking space. Their sign is bright yellow with big fonts so you can't miss it.

I'm happy to see a restaurant stick to a simple menu! It's shows they know their strength and are dedicated to it instead of watering down their menu with too many options that may not be as good.

I'm so glad there's a new delicious restaurant in the neighborhood....

Never coming here again! ZERO stars for Pho Ga 88, but this story has a happy ending. We used to come to this place as a local mediocre substitute when we didn't feel like driving to our favorite chicken pho place, Pho Ga Huong Que Cafe in Oakland, which has since closed. Came to Pho Ga 88 the other day and the place is full so the guy tells us to put our name on the waiting list. Despite waiting outside and being on the waiting list, new people showed up and went inside to seat themselves. When we complained to the staff about it, we were ignored and told there was nothing they could do about people seating themselves. What??? So we left, vowing to never come back to Pho Ga 88 ever again. This left us in search of chicken pho still so we looked on Yelp and found a place down the street. I didn't recognize the name at first but soon recognized the lady (owner) behind the register. Behold, Pho Ga Huong Que has reopened in San Leandro! The owner explained to me that their lease expired at their Oakland location and they didn't renew since COVID had really dropped customer traffic. So our terrible experience at Pho Ga 88 led us to find our favorite chicken pho place that closed but reopened in San Leandro, closer to us! Needless to say, we'll be going to Pho Ga Huong Que...

i would come here again just for the lovely jasmine tea that comes with the meal!

PERFECT FRIED CHICKEN. soups come with boiled chicken, which i don't like the fatty taste of. so, i got plain noodle soup and added fried chicken legs to it. the skin was so crispy that it stayed crunchy even after sitting in my soup for 5min!

the pho broth is bland & lacking salt on its own, but that's what the sauces are there for. once i added hoisin sauce, fish sauce, and sriracha to my liking, it was hearty & soothing. the green house sauce was delightful!

fresh soymilk was a treat, like tofu horchata.

"plum soda" is a salted plum drink - not sweet or fizzy at all, but very refreshing.

passionfruit soda is the BEST. lightly sweet, lightly fizzy, and has crunchy passionfruit seeds & pineapple froth.

ginger soda has a sweet syrup at the bottom full of real...
