At this establishment you order and pay at the counter. Then grab complimentary ice tea and a seat at any open tables.
Like their name indicates, their specialty is pho ga (and it seems fried chicken!). You can get a bowl of pho with a side of fried chicken! My nephew loved it.
My bf and I opted for the fried chicken rice plates. You can choose from thigh or wing; the wings plate comes with 2 pieces and an egg roll. The portion sizes are huge and it's just under $10!!! We really should have shared a plate. It comes with a side of pickled daikon and carrots, slices of cucumbers, 2 types of sauce and a bowl of broth to wash it all down. The chicken skin was legit crispy and flavorful. You really don't need the sauce but it was nice to change up the flavor profile occasionally. I absolutely loved both sauces: one is ginger and scallion oil and the other is sweet and spicy. I think the ginger is best with poached/ boiled chicken (like for the pho) and the spicy one is best for the fried chicken.
Btw, their Vietnamese coffee (cafe sua da) is legit! It's creamy and strong just like it should be.
Eric is very helpful, kind, and attentive to our needs while we dined indoors! He heard a utensil dropped and brought a new one over without us asking!!! That's above and beyond customer service. You da best Eric!
They have indoor seating with 3 tables for groups of 4 and 3 for pairs. They have 1 table for 2 in front. They staff wear masks and they have hand sanitizer all over the place, very clean and neat restaurant!
The restaurant is in a plaza with other eateries and a Asian supermarket (so convenient!) so there's a parking lot and it can get full but I've always been able to find a parking space. Their sign is bright yellow with big fonts so you can't miss it.
I'm happy to see a restaurant stick to a simple menu! It's shows they know their strength and are dedicated to it instead of watering down their menu with too many options that may not be as good.
I'm so glad there's a new delicious restaurant in the neighborhood....
Read moreNever coming here again! ZERO stars for Pho Ga 88, but this story has a happy ending. We used to come to this place as a local mediocre substitute when we didn't feel like driving to our favorite chicken pho place, Pho Ga Huong Que Cafe in Oakland, which has since closed. Came to Pho Ga 88 the other day and the place is full so the guy tells us to put our name on the waiting list. Despite waiting outside and being on the waiting list, new people showed up and went inside to seat themselves. When we complained to the staff about it, we were ignored and told there was nothing they could do about people seating themselves. What??? So we left, vowing to never come back to Pho Ga 88 ever again. This left us in search of chicken pho still so we looked on Yelp and found a place down the street. I didn't recognize the name at first but soon recognized the lady (owner) behind the register. Behold, Pho Ga Huong Que has reopened in San Leandro! The owner explained to me that their lease expired at their Oakland location and they didn't renew since COVID had really dropped customer traffic. So our terrible experience at Pho Ga 88 led us to find our favorite chicken pho place that closed but reopened in San Leandro, closer to us! Needless to say, we'll be going to Pho Ga Huong Que...

PERFECT FRIED CHICKEN. soups come with boiled chicken, which i don't like the fatty taste of. so, i got plain noodle soup and added fried chicken legs to it. the skin was so crispy that it stayed crunchy even after sitting in my soup for 5min!
the pho broth is bland & lacking salt on its own, but that's what the sauces are there for. once i added hoisin sauce, fish sauce, and sriracha to my liking, it was hearty & soothing. the green house sauce was delightful!
fresh soymilk was a treat, like tofu horchata.
"plum soda" is a salted plum drink - not sweet or fizzy at all, but very refreshing.
passionfruit soda is the BEST. lightly sweet, lightly fizzy, and has crunchy passionfruit seeds & pineapple froth.
ginger soda has a sweet syrup at the bottom full of real...
