Fried chicken was never my forte as it was either too greasy and dry inside or too crunchy but moist inside. Chicken tenders was the only thing I could tolerate as no one could do like grandma could⦠until Gusās.
We were referred to Gusās by a new friend we met at the local adult convention. Whataburger was the common go-to for our friends but we didnāt want āthe usualā - we wanted something new and damn it was good so good we went twice.
First day, Saturday, we bought a 2-piece plate and the sandwich for both of us as we were headed back to the convention thereafter. Steven or Stephen, forgive my spelling, was welcoming and helpful as well as the entire staff. Asking us about our spice tolerance and providing us with water while we waited for our order. Food is made fresh when you order and the wait is worth it.
Second day, Sunday, they were out of the chicken sandwich and we understood why. KJ was super helpful in helping us order as we still wanted a couple servings of their chicken and it was out second visit.
Flavor. The chicken is cooked in peanut oil as they said, which you can taste how light and delicious it makes the chicken. The crispy texture on the outside is met with the juicy inside of piping hot goodness.
Heat. When I say itās hot, itās smoking after the first bite. And we got takeout and drove 20 mins to the convention as well as socialized before sitting down to eat before the next panel show. It has a hint of spicy flavor as well that isnāt overwhelming. I canāt handle foods with too much heat, but their chicken was tolerable. Heat level between jalapeƱo poppers and Chesterās hot fries if I had to describe it.
Overall. I would definitely suggest trying the tenders with okra and potato salad or the sandwich. No pics as we were constantly on the go and it was an adult convention. Definitely check out the other reviews for pictures. Itās...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you havenāt tried Gusās World Famous Fried Chicken, you truly havenāt experienced what fried chicken should be. For years, I thought I knew good fried chickenāuntil I tasted Gusās. Their chicken is a masterpiece: juicy on the inside, perfectly crispy on the outside, and seasoned with just the right amount of spice to demand respect. Every bite is an explosion of flavor that puts other fried chicken to shame.
The sides are equally impressive. The potato salad, with its sweet undertones, complements the spiciness of the chicken beautifully. The fried okra is another standoutājuicy and flavorful, hinting at the freshness of the ingredients. Itās clear Gusās takes sourcing seriously.
Despite being part of a larger chain, Gusās retains the heart and soul of a small business. The restaurant is run like a well-oiled machine; even on busy days, the service is quick, efficient, and delivered with a genuine smile. The team exudes a sense of careāboth for each other and for their customersāthat makes the experience even more special.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter a coworker recommended Gusās Fried Chicken, we decided to try it after a trade show to avoid the standard buffet dinner. The establishment is very clean and has a fresh, modern vibe. We were greeted warmly upon entering and were able to choose our own seating, which was a nice touch. Our waiter was friendly and attentive throughout the meal.
I ordered a Coke, and my dining companion opted for a half sweet tea, half lemonade mix. For the meal, I went with the 2-piece white plate, which came with baked beans and coleslaw, while my coworker chose the 4-leg dinner special with fried okra and beans. Both meals were priced at $12 each, which we found reasonable.
The chicken was served piping hot, with a wonderfully crispy exterior and moist, flavorful meat. The portion sizes were impressiveāI couldnāt finish my meal, and the breast and wing were especially large. The chicken had a great flavor, with just enough spice to leave a little heat without being overwhelming. Both the beans and slaw had a nice balance of flavors and paired well with the meal.
Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be returning to Gusās. Highly recommend if youāre in the mood for some delicious...
