I come back to you having scoured as far as a tank of gas would get me for Cheese steak and I return with proof, the truth, gospel, word. Philly Franks is THE best in San Diego. I love Gaglione Bros and they are good, Philly's Best is junk and Jersey Mike's is sloppy big. Perfect size, bread, sweet and hot peppers, mushrooms and onions melt like slow delicious lava. The cheese is mixed perfectly and doesn't just cover/coat the center, it's all slammed in there. I only recently started messing with the menu, like adding Capicola to the steak works. Adding salami or hot sauce and pickles. Adding that dry salt cured capicola really zings at the end of each bite, almost like a gem hiding in the bag of Scroug McDuck's vault. My gift to the world is telling all of my friends about this and going to war against anyone who thinks otherwise. The works (steak with sweet and spicy peppers), onions, mushrooms, and capicola. Then a few pickles and pepperoncini's to top it off and then a quick dousing of Tapitillo. This will make you question your morals, cut friends loose and detray your family. Like Drake said "Best I ever had"
Philly Franks IS authentic Cheesesteak. The cheesewhiz on the fries is pretty tasty and a normal thing throughout the country except here. Their homemade hot sauce is excellent. Get a side of ranch and tapatillo and your set. Everything is legit down to the desserts, beer, chips, hoagies and the people that work there. I've been told by a friend of a deepfried hoagie/sub which she called a grinder, but based on food shows I thought that was a basic name for a sub on the eastern seaboard, but apparently in Philly a Grinder is deep fried. Can someone enlighten me. People from Socal should expect the service to be a little rough, like the city this all comes from, but no matter how much of a shock it is to go there, the food will keep you coming back for more. The only downfall is i don't think their onion rings are hand breaded. You should try the whole menu, it's all very good, but you'll probably find you combo and stick to it. I have. The works Steak and Ultimate Cheese fries. Side of Ranch and tapatillo, extra pickles and hot sauce on the side for the fries. Come get you some brotherly love in San...
Read moreA friend told me about this place and I wish he didnât. I found out his birthday is coming up and I wanted to get him a gift card for his birthday. I drove almost 30 miles up here after work. I wanted to try it too since I was there. I asked for a suggestion on the sandwich since they have a lot on their menu. I bought that one and I decided to get their frings. Their onion rings looked like crap. I donât like to waste food so I still ate them. I did actually enjoy the fries. It took me about 10 minutes to eat them. When I opened my sandwich it was soggy! It didnât sit for âthat longââŚ.the sandwich wasnât good either. I donât know maybeâŚjust maybeâŚif the lady had asked me if I wanted to eat it there or to-go it would have been less soggy. They packaged it as to-go then were shocked that I sat at the table to eat. SMH! The best part was the cheez whiz sauce. I should have bought more cheez whiz to drown the meat and add in flavor. Sorry but itâs true! Unfortunately I will not be recommending this place to anyone. Especially after paying $27.00 plus for a sandwich, frings and a large drink. I also left like $5.00 for a tip. I actually donât mind to travel for good food places and this isnât on the list. More props to the people who...
Read moreFeeling a little under the weather, I was lucky enough to have my mom bring me a true Philly cheesesteak from Philly Frank's Steaks. This sandwich checked every box for authenticity. First and foremost, it came on an Amorosoâs rollâarguably the most important element of a great cheesesteak. The second key factor is the filling: finely chopped steak paired with perfectly melted cheese. Some purists insist on Cheese Whiz, while others swear by Provolone, but as long as the cheese melts beautifully into the meat, youâre doing it right.
I prefer mine with onions and mushrooms, and this one delivered on bothâfresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. I later found out they also offer sweet peppers, which Iâll definitely be adding next time. The combination of textures and flavors in this sandwich was spot-on, making every bite a satisfying experience.
Despite not feeling my best, this cheesesteak was a much-needed pick-me-up, bringing the comfort of a true Philly classic. It wasnât just goodâit was spectacular. If youâre looking for an authentic Philly cheesesteak, this one more than earned the title. Next time, Iâll be ready with an even bigger appetite and a request for those...
