Del Oro Taqueria Mexican Grill — Restaurant in San Mateo

Update - the waitress was apologetic and offered me a free drink for the long wait. In addition, the burrito is quite good. So, the service is slow, but the food is good. 30 minutes for a vegetarian burrito. And the restaurant was mostly empty. I essentially turned to a skeleton in my seat waiting. The sun set. The seasons changed. Turned out that somehow they took my order and my money but didn't submit the order into the system. When I asked how much longer it would take, I couldn't get an answer. Wait, you work at a Mexican restaurant and you don't know how long it will take to make a vegetarian burrito? The least the waitress could do would be to offer me a complementary drink or something while I'm waiting and for my time, which was considerable. 1 star right now, prior to getting my burrito. If it's above average, I'll raise the rating. otherwise, no way I'm coming back here unless I'm on...

There have been a couple different attempts at a taqueria in this location before this one. Del Oro has finally gotten it right! The carnitas is legit, they do it crisp rather than soggy. Birria tacos are fantastic, delicious stew. The service is friendly and relaxed. The music is right, the mural on the wall is awesome. I noticed another review complaining about price - this isn't a cheap taco joint for your hangover, this is a legit restaurant that serves great casual Mexican tacos...

Really want this place to survive but they need to learn how to scale the service. Food is great! Wait times and lack of staff is inexcusable. I've been here several times and ordered in several modes from dine in, take out, call ahead and doordash pick up. Generally takes over an hour to get a single burrito. Doordash pick up order was ready ~35 min after pick up time. They aren't going to last with this service. Too many other great burrito spots to justify waiting this long...
