Mariscos El Ajoyano — Restaurant in San Mateo

I was expecting the usual warm from Mexican restaurants, but our server was dry and also too distracted and forgot to bring 2 glasses of water and a coke for my party of 5, leaving us thirsty. My Marlin tacos had an non pleasant smell that I tried to blend with lots of lime and tapatío sauce without success. Chips are bland, shrimp empanadas, weekend special, were over fried and dark brown on the edges. The salad with their aoli was very smushy and had a taste from fridge storage. Was a little dismayed at first based on the prices and the fact that they served sushi, but i was pleasantly surprised by how massive the portions are.

We ordered the ceviche, and it was large enough for 3 people with tostadas and crackers. It had good flavor, but it became a lot to eat after a while.

The dining space was filled with plenty of tables, the staff were very friendly, and we really enjoyed the vibe of the restaurant with fun...

Great customer service. Especially from owners Flavio and Delfina. We love the Ceviche, tamales, barbacoa, and the horchata. Food is always fresh. Clean atmosphere! I’ve been coming here since they opened and celebrated a birthday here as they have many tables to make a large table. They get really busy on Sundays after church so I recommend making a reservation or calling in first on weekend afternoons...
