Five stars for the donuts, but regrettably less stars for the service.
Donuts To Go is my go-to place when I want to bring something special to work for my team, or when I have family or friends visiting and want an easy breakfast. The variety and flavors of the donuts are phenomenal, but the selection dwindles the longer you wait, so be sure to get there early to get the cream of the crop (especially on the weekends).
That being said, there has never been an occasion that I have had a bad experience at Donuts To Go until my most recent visit. Rather than stopping in for some donuts, I brought my mom here to try their breakfast sandwiches, and the visit from start to finish was just bizarre.
We had few issues ordering, as their menu display behind the counter outlines the different options for building your own sandwich. I was disappointed that the menu did not specify that you could get an egg on your breakfast sandwich, but luckily the girl working the counter asked if I wanted it. After we placed our order, I paid and the girl told us to have a nice day, which I also found odd as we ordered our food to eat there, but chalked it up to an automatic customer response.
We took our drinks and sat at a table to wait on our food, and after a few minutes a man sat down across from us with a styrofoam cup of what looked like tea. The bottom of the cup burst open, spilling his drink all over the floor; we attempted to help him but he said it was alright, and he started to clean it up with some paper towels. A staff member came out and yelled at him to not do that, as she was going to get a mop to clean it up. While I understand that the paper towels would make it harder for mop up the liquid, I didn't feel that she needed to scold the customer in the harsh manner that she did. More than ten minutes passed and she never returned with the mop, and another staff member came over and wondered why she didn't clean it up, chalking it up to "she must have forgot." He went around the corner to the counter and she came back with the mop a few minutes later, making an equally inappropriate stink about picking up the wet paper towels before she mopped. Not once during this entire series of events did they apologize for their cup bursting on the man or offer him a new drink.
Ten more minutes passed and my mom wondered where our food was, as it had been about 20-25 minutes since we'd initially ordered. She approached the counter and asked, and she was handed a bag of food, despite the fact that we said we would eat there. Since I had ordered a bagel that had been sitting sealed in that bag for who knows how long, by the time I ate it the bagel was rubbery.
I normally have nothing but high praise for Donuts To Go, so needless to say I was embarrassed to have brought my mom here after talking it up only to have an experience like this. I felt so genuinely bad for the man across from us, who should never have been treated the way that he was treated by anyone, let alone the staff of the establishment that he was a paying customer of. While I will likely still purchase donuts from Donuts To Go, chances are this was my last time sticking around for...
Read moreFirst, I want to acknowledge that I have never had a bad experience with Donuts To Go in the years I've been a customer. The donuts are amazing, the staff has always been pleasant and seem to go out of their way to make the experience a good one. It's only recently that I've become frustrated with them.
Over a recent weekend I woke up and decided I'd drive out to pick up a dozen donuts for my household. I got online to check their hours as it was already 10:30am. I saw that on weekends they close at 2pm and figured it was totally fine and certainly they'd have enough inventory...well I was wrong. I drove out there only to walk inside around 11:10am and see a small tray with with the last of their stock. I was confused and asked what time they closed (thinking maybe I had made the mistake and read the wrong time but no) the employee let me know they close at 2pm but would be closing up early due to selling out early. I looked at what was left but decided it wasn't worth the money to buy a dozen donuts I didn't really want. I politely declined and left.
I thought perhaps it was a fluke and I happened to catch them on a busy day, that's not the case at all. I came in today at 11:15am to see the same situation, a small tray of donuts and them about to close up for the day. Again, I wasted time and gas.
I understand a business not wanting to make too much product that they can't sell leading to waste and also I think it's incredibly disrespectful to your customers to have a listed time online (and also have you employees recite that closing time) and close up 2.5-3 hours before that time because you sold out.
I think the better solution would be to either adjust your weekend closing times (because there seems to be a pattern of you selling out around 11am ish) or making more product that would actually last you until your listed closing time or advertising that your customers should call ahead to see what's left before wasting time and gas.
I'm not going to give up on Donuts To Go because like I said previously it's amazing, but I'm just disappointed that it's now twice within a 2-3 week time period. Something...
Read moreThis morning 11/29 my husband and daughter went to this location and purchased a dozen donuts. My children pass by it every time we come to town to visit my mother and finally we gave into them. We were eating our donuts when my son started crying and blood was coming out of his mouth. When I checked his mouth he had broken a tooth. There was blood on the donut from when he was eating the donut. (Good thing it was a baby tooth, my son is 7 years old) HOWEVER I called the location and spoke with a manager because I wanted to find out when the donut was made and if something could of been in the donut. The manager never apologized to me but made sure to blame my son, was he playing play station? (Not sure how that could be important as he wouldn’t eat a remote. And just for curious minds NO he was not playing anything especially since A. We weren’t in our house. B we don’t own a play station) I explained that I didn’t want donuts, a refund or a problem I just wanted to verify when it was done and if something could of been in the donut and possibly swallowed it. She said it would be virtually impossible and again made it seem as if I was lying and continued to make it seem as if my son had done something to cause this. I was then told my information would be given to the owners who would reach out to me and as of now I have not heard anything. I am disgusted that someone could blame a child, that someone could not care about how it could of happened when restaurants and other places make mistake and life happens and just blame and insinuate the things she did and the way she did it. I will never allow my family to buy there again and I will make sure to ensure that everyone who will listen won’t eat there again. I have several pictures that I emailed to a friend at Chanel 9 news and I truly hope this does not happen to...
