Ono Hawaiian BBQ — Restaurant in Santa Ana

We had a coupon and had never eaten at an Ono Hawaiian BBQ before. We got two Aloha Plates for the price of one!! Whopee!! We had one plate with teriyaki chicken and white fish and the other with BBQ chicken and pork. We thought the food tasted good but we didn't see a Hawaiian connection. No pineapple, no macaroni salad, nothing that was particularly Hawaiian. The plates come with rice and what they call a salad, which is shredded iceberg lettuce with a few edamame beans and sesame seeds and a little dressing. The atmosphere is what I would call typical dine in fast food. A few paint and decorations to give it a Hawaiian flair, but not much. The counter person was friendly and efficient. This was our first time at this location, so glad we tried it! We placed an online scheduled order for a family meal, which serves 4. So much food! We chose the Hawaiian BBQ Chicken, Chicken Katsu and Teriyaki Chicken, which came with 6 scoops of rice, 4 scoops of mac salad and all entrees came with cooked cabbage. Good tasting food overall. Customer service is great. But no Mac salad is blasphemy! Haha I didn’t want two servings of salad :( no Hawaiian dish is complete without a Mac salad. I shouldn’t have to ask for it. So weird. Don’t be in a rush like me and assume they got Hawaiian culture down so Pay attention to the menu and make sure you request the Mac salad. Or be disappointed like me.
