I wanted to love this place. Went there because they sold champurrado. The tamale, hard shell taco and rice were very bland. The beans were good. I had to order chips (twice) and they were mass produced factory chips with some seasoning sprinkled over them. My reasonable expectation was real chips from an "authentic" Mexican food restaurant. I also ordered the El Pastor Tacos and they had a chemical like taste. It looked like wet pulled pork. I did not even take a second bite. I was so disappointed that I did not even ask for the "to go" champurrado that I pre-paid for, nor did they try to stop me to offer me the champurrado I was leaving behind. I was hoping for something similar to Tito's Tacos. The El Pastor was not even edible and everything but the beans were bland. One thing I did get, was alot of people staring at me and my friend, like I was in the wrong neighborhood. If your a white guy you might want to be prepared for some animus. Funny thing is, I have lived in this neighborhood since 1970 and have always treated people with kindness and respect ...period! If you're reading this please understand that everybody wants to feel accepted and acknowledged no matter who you are. This is why Strangers make eye contact and sometimes smile when you walk by. It's about being a Human Being not a race. Do not let (US) the Human Race be broken up by listening to people in the Media. They are desperately trying to tribalize the United States of America so they can easily manipulate people to a pre-set agenda that will help politicians make money and stay in power. Resist the "group think" mentality and have a conversation with the people who seem out of place. You might find out they have lived there longer...
Read moreAWFUL. So first off..its easy to find. Plenty of street parking. Not a busy street so easy to get in and out. Place was okay on clean..had a sense of dirty atmosphere though. Cashier pop in kitchen and out. Didnt wait long before she came out. She spoke english and spanish. Ordered my food. when paid with cash...NO THANK YOU was given, in fact after i handed over my cash she just finished ringing it up and went in the back I had no idea how long my food was going to take so I sat down and waited. About 10 mins(only 1 person waiting in front of me) she came out and repeated my order. She finally said Thank you. Main part...FOOD: I order 2 beef tamales and 2 tacos beef meat and cheese only. First off was tacos. They were hard shelled...i assumed a hispanic establishment would serve me soft tortillas...The shells were REALLY greasy. the cheese was not melted at all just shredded. Meat tasted bland...I said meat and cheese only but saw some lettuces mixed in. NOT HAPPY. Tamales...I went here because they claim to have amazing tamales...WRONG. They were wrapped VERY poorly. I couldnt peel them without destroying the whole tamale. They tasted fine..a bit cold.. but again...no taste...just bland. Spend you money elsewhere. Should have spent it on a food truck just parked less than...
Read moreWow this place actually messed up Mexican food! If you are coming here over Grub with Greg's recommendation, be warned. We got the Asada burrito, the Asada plate, and some Crunchy Beef Tacos that GwG highly recommended...
First off the good. The service was good. And both green and red salsa are solid. The red salsa is watery but has proper heat.
Then there's the food... The Asada burrito was a proper workout for my jaw. The Asada was dry and tough and devoid of flavor. Wow.
The Asada plate is more of the same. A slab of USDA Rejected cardboard allergic to any seasoning, and beans and rice that will make you lose faith in your God.
And the ultimate insult was the crunchy beef tacos. The shell was crunchy and the whole thing looked the part, until you take a bite and realize you f'd up. The beef was light grey with a tint of green. It was dry and flavorless and had the consistency of saw dust.
I love supporting local businesses, and maybe we went on an off day, or maybe Grub with Greg gets a nice kickback for these "influencer collabs," either way we won't be coming...
