When Vietnamese food restaurants become known by acronyms you know they've made it. LDK, THH, etc. Not that I can't pronounce their full name, I just know I butcher it so now that I come here on a regular basis and call it THH, that doesn't matter. They became known for their speed, convenience, simple menu and sandwiches. To me the real gem here is the rice porridge. Similar in some ways to the also savory chicken adobo of my Filipino heritage their poddige is much less thick with the rice as more of a base that basis.
The chicken is cooked and added separate, also like pho the vegetables are added afterwards giving it more of that salad feel than porridge style which is kind of all inclusive, but make no mistake the chicken is good. Nice and hot, but the star is the fish porridge. Tons of flavor. Their to go is great because they package it all up and include the spoon, not even every pho place does that well.
Boba menu is about a dozen with icey and smoothie options. Go with the ice tea, that's really good and their boba is consistent and inexpensive.
Bahn mi sandwiches are made on fresh house made bread, slathered in mayo, pickled daikon and carrots, cilantro, jalapeno and your choice of meat. I prefer butter to mayo and mayo over pate. The bread is a little too flakey and tends to get hard quick so eat as soon as possible. They offer a fried egg which makes them stand out a bit, also they tend to cramp more in their sandwiches. Their pork is a little bland and tough in texture. Chicken is bland, but nicely shredded, still better than the BBQ version which lacks any BBQ flavor. They are cheap, not the cheapest around, but it's nice to see they make the bread in house and when eaten right away is pretty good.
Spring rolls are a steal at $3.50 for 3. Tightly wrapped, but to me the peanut sauce could be more bold, it's a little watery and I can barely taste the real ingredients. Vermicelli and BBQ Pork was pretty lacking in size, flavor and overall. The noodles were a tad thin, the sauce was bland, the BBQ pork was tough and had no seasoning. Sandwich club is a better deal for that and Lee's is a better deal for sandwiches so just come here for boba and rice porridge.
Service is excellent on the phone and in person. They can get caught in rushes understaffed which is why I call ahead and here there. It's not a bad way to fill up for cheap. Come by and learn what THH is all about. Parkinglot is shared and small. Outdoor seating is not segregated from the public so really not much ambiance. Décor is more like a pick up café with only slightly...
Read moreI gotta know and like their eggrolls but didn't know they also make Bánh cuốn, so I got some while in the neighborhood.
Their Bánh cuốn is pretty good but not the best. The rice roll is thin, filled with good amount of ground pork per roll, right size for each roll, not greasy, easy to separate each roll. The rice skin itself is definitely made from freshly ground rice. The texture could be abit chewier, otherwise it could win me over.
I bought a pound with pork filled for $8. Came with a mixed fish sauce cup, a small bag of bean sprouts , and small bag of fried shallots. The fish sauce is ok but I really like crunchy shallot bits.
If you add more Vietnamese "steamed and or roasted Pork Bologna", cucumber and mints, the pound is enough for 2 ppl.
Definitely will buy it from them...
Read moreA takeout place - THH excels at meeting your Vietnamese takeout needs. I had the Banh Mi, which is a generous portion that doesn't leave you wanting more.
With the soups, remember to let it stay for a few minutes so the meat can absorb flavors. Eaten immediately, the chicken udon was quite bland. Being a takeout place, this concept is actually brilliant.
I took one star off for the cleanliness. They have a couple of tables outside but these do not seem to be...
