I did not eat here. I don't usually go to the Santa Clara Library, but rolled in to get some work done around 7:50pm. They close at 8. I sit down, and an employee immediately beelines for me and asks me if I'll be ordering something. I say "not now", because I might but who knows. He tells me to leave so other patrons can use the space. It's important to tell you that there were NONE other patrons waiting anywhere nearby. I get up and leave, and he closes shortly thereafter. I wish this story was over, but we aren't that lucky. There was another girl studying at their tables around 8:05 (not sure if she had ordered something or not). By this time he has closed up and about to leave. The employee asks the girl to leave, even though he was closed. Incredibly rude and doesn't even make sense to kick out people once you're closed. I wouldn't go there as a customer - rude staff are just not worth the convenience and...

All those reviews nagging about not letting them to sit there because they were not ordering anything, are not fair in my view. Yes, at the time maybe someone was not waiting, but if they see no space is available, they may not make a purchase. Also, it is their tables, so they can decide to have their own policy. It may be no harm in lending something of you own to someone, but simply you may don't like to do so. So don't expect others to let you use their...
Read moreWhile I understand that loiterings are bad for foot businesses, booting people out even when your tables are empty isn't probably the best idea. I was a returning customer when the owner decided it's best to ask me to leave 20 minutes in because I hadn't ordered at the time. I had Bought drinks and pastries from this cafe several times since the library is my daughter's go-to for storytimes. The food and drinks were mediocre, so it had been mostly the tables and the service that had kept my business there. Now I pack my lunch whenever I visit the library and eat just in front of the cafe. What's a business without compassion? Au...
