What a neat quaint place! I love the decor on the outside. While we did not visit the cantina side, we thoroughly enjoyed their diner. The walkway into the establishment is super cool, and keeps you out of the sun or rain if you are waiting outside for someone. there is also a huge outdoor patio seating area where musicians and their bands will setup and play while you dine. The inside dining area actually was not very large but had lots of comfortable seating along the windows where you can look at outdoor art or people watch or just avoid staring at all the enormous high definition television screens that are hung behind the long twelve or so person bar. Unfortunately we visited during the middle of November before Thanksgiving and there were already what appeared to be xmas decorations hung in there windows. It was great getting to read about the history of the town and the area with the story on the front of the menu. We both ordered the fried green chile yak burger. Everything was terrific, the burgers cooked to medium & medium rare perfection and loaded with veggies besides TWO almost comically large fried green chiles, both of which would have been delicious on their own with out any batter! There was no sweet tea but or waitress was sweet enough to supply us with plenty of packets of sugar and lemons for their iced tea. For all of our luxurious eating and drinking, the bill was still more than moderately priced. i can not wait to visit again and until then will highly recommend this restaurant to any one who is...
Read moreWe eat here whenever we bring out-of-town guests to Madrid, and weâve even made the half-hour drive from Santa Fe when we want the cowboy biker vibe this place offers in spades. The tavern is everything a saloon should be: an old, long wooden, mirror-facing bar; a stage at the far end of the windowless room where local musicians crank out Country and Oldies, a pool table, saloon lighting (but not fighting), and abundant tables, where youâd expect to see Doc Holiday leading a game of Faro. The only thing missing is the horses. Follow the mine shaft to the Cantina, where youâll find another, shorter bar in a cheerful windowed room of tables. Our favorite daytime table is the high four-top near the far door, with its commanding view of the main drag. Outside the door is a patio with ample colorfully umbrellaed tables and a covered patio. The menu offers several reasonably priced bottles of wine and many local and nationally known beers, if cerveza is your thing. The food is upscale bar fare. The burgers, brisket dishes, wings, tenders, and pizzas are great for lunch and theyâre Wagyu steaks for dinner. There are also several good but surprising dishes you wouldnât expect to find in a saloon: Wagyu Steak Salad, Caprese Salad, Tuna Tataki, BLAT, and fish tacos. I guess saloons arenât what they used to be, but this oneâs better. Weâll be back, with or without guests. Suggestion: cut back on the suggested tip percentages, which...
Read moreExcellent food as always, but we experienced some awful service today, and it was a slow afternoon, so it wasnât like they were super busy.
The only reason Iâm truly writing this is because the server, not so subtly, gave me a hard time for not leaving a tip. Which was hard to do with the service we received.
We ordered our food, and one of our orders came out completely wrong. It was a cheeseless patty with just bacon and nothing else, even though we ordered their signature dish, the Mad Chile Burger. We mentioned it was wrong, but the server just took it away without asking further questions or allowing us to elaborate.
The kicker was watching the server, the cook, and someone else barehanded grab and deconstruct the burger on the counter in plain view. We saw it disappear behind the cookâs line and come back exactly the sameâstill wrong. Then, instead of fixing the issue, we were brought a side of green chile on a plate. At that point, we were over it and decided to move on.
We also had to remind them about the condiments we had asked for earlier, as we could see them playing around at the bar instead of paying attention to the tables.
What pushed me over the edge was when we were in the middle of a nice conversation at our table one of us still eating with food in their mouth and the server abruptly interrupted us with the...
