La Picosita Restaurant — Restaurant in Santa Maria

This place was recommended to me by McDonald's employee so I went there. The place is small and it is popular. My concerned was are the employees of La Picosita restaurant following the mandatory protocol of the Public Heath if California in which employees must wash hands before contact with the food they are going to handle the employees are all from Mexico and (not sure if they are undocumented immigrants), but this doesn't concerned me. What concerned me the most is how the food being handled by the employees, as part of Public Health concerned employees MUST Wash their hands constantly and not handle anything than the food they are serving..

1. Must WASH hands with warm soap and water for 30 seconds.
2. Do not touch anything than the food you are handling.
3. If leaving the food you are handling MUST wash hands before and after handling food.
4. Always and MUST WASH your hands after bathroom use.
5. DO NOT adjust your hat/cap with the same cloves your serving and cooking the food
6. always wash hands.

These are just some of the proper way to maintain good proper hygiene for food serving there are more to it. I just hope they follow the guidelines from the California Public Health regulations for...

The only redeeming quality of this restaurant is the food is some of the best in town and they’re open late. They have security at night that is very rude. Even though he recognized me, he would not allow me to use the restroom before I placed an order. Why? I’m a paying customer and I used to come here all the time. It gets worse. They used to charge 25 cents for extra salsa which was already ridiculous but now they are a dollar each for small salsa cups. To top it off, they have unsafe food handling practices. This restaurants hot food prep surface containers are metal and food is made to go directly into them. Possibly in effort to avoid doing dishes this business lines all hot food containers with the same plastic shopping bags they put your order into. This has been going on ever since I’ve been coming here and I’m very surprised the health department hasn’t put stop to it. Plastic shopping bags will obviously leach plastic into your food. They advertise Closing at midnight. The food sounded good and it was only 11 p.m. so I drove 20 minutes to Santa Maria. The app directions took me right to the place but when I got there a little before 11:30, it was locked up tight and when I knocked on the door and pointed to my watch the people inside just laughed . .. Soon a security guard came around the corner and asked me what I was doing. I told them I was there for dinner and they weren't supposed to be closed for another half an hour to which they, (there were two of them now) replied, "I guess they closed early to clean" and that I would have to leave.
