So, I had an experience here last night. I have mixed feelings about my night. I would love to speak to the owner. I am a Louisiana girl that wanted an oyster shack dinner. I called ahead to make a reservation for 7 people and 3 dogs. The sweet host let me know that this restaurant is dog friendly on the back porch. Unfortunately, this restaurant is a very busy restaurant, and they prefer you just walk up with your full party. It was a .7 mile away from my hotel. So, we just walked to the restaurant. The night was blooming with possibilities! When I saw the restaurant, I was taken right back to the bayou where I was raised. The front décor had realistic statues on benches. The screened front seating plus the creole ambiance was thrilling. We arrived and the nice two hosts let my party walk the dogs through the building to seat our party outside. Unfortunately, the shucker that is normally outside went home and the band was putting up their band equipment. Which was sad but understandable given the time we arrived. One of the seven guests ordered 7 Moscow mules and three dozen raw oysters. The bar keep, Brook, made 7 very weak drinks and one dozen oysters. I was a bit surprised why we didn’t get three dozen oysters? I approached the bar to ask where the other 2 dozen oysters were. Brooke was very angry and rude. She said, “You have to pay before you eat at this restaurant”. That was a bit weird for me. The amazing shucker, Mr. Collin, delivered the first dozen oysters to my table while I was attempting to finish my order. I am sure they were delicious, but I did not get one because of Ms. Brook. Well, I put my card on the bar and proceeded to order the rest of my order. I want to express that one of my guests has a food allergy. Brook lost her mind when I was trying to explain what he could eat. She rudely interrupted me continuously. My friend is unable to eat fish with scales. He can eat shrimp, oysters, clams, crab, or any seafood with a shell. We have eaten at many seafood restaurants and never had this much fuss. I asked what he was able to order that is friend? She said I can fry a hotdog or a hamburger. Ok, I was like that is all you can offer me. Currently, she was not in the weeds. I then bought my 2nd and 3rd oysters plus 7 more cocktails. I asked for a manager because I felt like maybe I needed to speak to someone else. Brook made a comment right in front of her manager. She said, “I can’t deal with this sh**” and rolled her eyes as she walked off. I have never had a worker curse at me because she is having a hard night. I was polite to her and did not understand why. The manager arrived quickly and was calm and collected. He handled the hostile situation flawlessly. His recommendation was sauteed crab cakes with French fries. Which had the perfect amount of crisp on the outside and moist chucky crab on the inside. Then I wanted to finish my order through Collin. Which was shrimp platter, lobster roll, and two seafood platters. The meal was wonderful. I normally take many pictures, but my blood was boiling, and my hands were shaking. This meal was not cheap, and I still left a huge tip. We ate quickly and walked home.

I tried Owen Burns' Fish Camp restaurant today for the first time. I found it by accident off a little side street hidden in the back. I would say the joke is that this is probably one of the least hidden places in Sarasota to many people. The reason l found it was because there was a long line standing outside of it. They were all waiting to get in before the 4 o'clock opening. I came back a bit later after finishing my sidewalk art pictures of Burns Square. The place was packed. The wait was long and my option was to choose bar seating so l did. Everyone was very friendly. I was engaged in conversation with no less than 3 couples who were having dinner there. A couple were regulars and they told me about the place and its history. The staff was very friendly and on top of things. From the hostess to the servers to the table turnover folks, to the managers who spoke to me and welcomed me like a regular. The bartender was especially on top of things. She was constantly checking the customers at both bar areas making sure everyone was happy along with her mixing drinks. We even had a few laughs about it as she said she takes ownership of her bar, and it shows. I was amazed at the friendliness and organization all the people showed especially when the restaurant was so busy. From what l found out it is constantly busy, and although I'm sure the service plays a big part in it, the food does also. I had the pecan crusted trout with their specialty potatoes and green beans. It was an excellent tasting well prepared meal that made you feel good that you made the right choice. From everything else l heard there are many good choices there. There are many options from fresh from the sea, to fried, and different things in between. The menu must be a hit as people continue to come back with no let up. The atmosphere also plays a part in it. The restaurant is an old house that belonged to Mr Burns, a distinguished founder and builder of Sarasota. It is old Florida style from the inside to the outside. The outside has a whole unique atmosphere to it, and l won't even spoil the surprise l discovered, as people can enjoy it if they go there. I had the apple pie turnover for dessert That was great, and it left me with other choices to try another time. I didn't just leave satisfied as far as hunger, but l left satisfied in the fact l had a great dining experience that was not fancy but very appealing and colorful. You definitely feel welcome when you go there and everyone is in the mindset to keep it that way. I will gladly go back again to try this and have another relaxing enjoyable dining experience.

Food so good that the one and a half hour wait for a table was WELL worth it. This was our first time here and I was just blown away by this place. Google had picked this place out for us when we searched for "best seafood place in Sarasota". So, we get here and we were told that the wait was about one and a half hours, and the line to get in told us the same. With Google telling us that this was the place to get the best seafood here, we we're troopers and waited it out. They didn't just send us away after telling us the wait time. The hostess pointed us to a "waiting room" that was large and outdoors. There was live folk music, with purchasable beer, wine, and some killer baked ousters. Now the price of the beer was rediculous at $5 a bottle, that just seemed like a cash grab to me... But, then I remembered that there was a very good live band playing and the beer prices made sense. All is forgiven. By the way, the smoked oysters were freaking amazing! No joke. They were a pralude of what was to come. A quick note, everytone was very helpful and in happy spirits. After about 1 hour and 20 minutes in the waiting area, we were called, YES, CALLED, to tell is our table was ready. I was initially slightly disappointed that there was not bread and butter served as an initial appetizer, when when my claim chowder came, I forgot all about the missing bread and butter. I had the Jambalaya, and it came out there was a heaping mountain of a plate full of it placed in front of me. Points scored for massive food poritons right there. Then, the smell hit me and it was on! Needless to say that it tasted like it was made with fresh ingredients, and the flavor was just our of this world good! My wife had some kind of seafood pasta dish that was ALSO heaping with a mound full of shrimp, clams, and muscles! This thing was massive! By the way, our food came out quick vs the fact that this place was PACKED! Me and my wife would just blown away by the Fish Camp. I honestly can't wait to come back, probably make reservations this time, and try something else. I highly recommend this restaurant, and, it's really not too expensive of date here either

Regardless of the fact that the line to get into this restaurant began forming long before they even opened, and regardless of the fact that they had way more of a demand than they had seats available, they managed to get us seated and served and to fill our bodies with deliciousness without a single error. Our server, Claudia, was AMAZING, and she didn't skip a beat once. She was on top of everything and made our time there enjoyable and easy. The food was incredible, delicious, and came in perfect tempo despite the crazy demand they were dealing with. I witnessed food runners, bussers, and servers working together as a team, and I noticed that their working environment is that of a well-oiled machine. Whatever they're doing to train the servers in there is working, and because of it, the place just flows. I will say that the hostess tonight was seriously short tempered and had a not so nice attitude towards people. It was chaos there from before they even opened, but she is the first person people encounter; she is the face of the restaurant, its representative, and I witnessed numerous people walking away very upset with how she spoke to them. She was short, rude, and lacked any kind of personality, compassion, or understanding. Not a very good person to have in the front of the house greeting people, however, aside from my experience with her, everything was phenomenal. I have lived here for about 25 years and have never been until tonight. Even with the mad holiday rush with it being the night before New Year's Eve, as well as the crazy busy "season", they managed to produce wonderful service and delicious food, and because of it, I will become a faithful customer.

Delicious Food, Fast Service and Reasonable prices. First off they told us it would be a 2.5 hour wait but our table was ready in about an hour. So if you arrive do not be scared by the wait time. Anyone that is put on the list has 5 min to claim their table so many people change their minds and the line moves quickly. The Lobster Rolls had a Very Generous Portion of meat on them and they were amazing! I honestly couldn't believe the price. The oysters Rockefeller was terrific. Perfectly cleaned and cooked. The crab filling slightly overpowered the oyster flavor but they were still great. The House Basket was filled to the brim with Shrimp, Fried Oysters, and French fries. There was only a half piece of Grouper in the basket but they were very generous with the shrimp and oysters. It was very filling but I would have liked a full piece of fish. Again the price was excellent for the amount of food they give you. The desserts were very hard to choose from. With that many delicious options it was hard to decide without having to order one of everything to make sure we didnt miss the best one. In the end we chose the Mississippi Mud Pie. The dessert was a chocolate lovers dream. Extremely rich and had a nice coffee/chocolate flavor to it. My only complaint is that it was served at room temperature but would have been AMAZING if they served it cold and on a chilled plate. All in all it was a great experience. Good music and great atmosphere. I saw a guest next to us having the Lobster and Shrimp cobb salad being delivered as we left and I had to take a picture so I could remember what to order on my next trip. In the immortal words of Arnold "ill be back!"
