Lucky Stiff, a musical farce now playing until December 28,2025.
Based on the book “The Man Who Broke the Bank in Monte Carlo”, was off Broadway in 1988. Also played in London’s West End in 1997. Very funny with a great cast. If you like farces, you’ll like this play at the Gompertz Theater at FST.
Don’t Dress for Diner is a very funning farce by Marc Campletti who also wrote Boeing Boeing. Well acted with good costumes, scenic design. This play is in the Gompertz Theater and runs through August 24. Highly recommend this very funny production about a romantic weekend that goes wrong and turns chaotic and confusing.
Dorothy’s Dictionary by E M Lewis at the Gompertz theater through August 10.
A troubled high school student is assigned community service reading to a blind librarian in a nursing home develop an unlikely friendship.
The two create a bond through the power of words and literature. I recommend this heartwarming story lasting 60 minutes.
Dames at Sea running through July 6, 2025. A story about an aspiring young dancer from Utah who gets off a bus with only her tap shoes. Ruby is hopeful for a part on Broadway and lands a small role in a Broadway musical with help from a songwriting sailor.
The deva Mona starring in the musical is unable to play her part and gives up her starring role. However , the theater suddenly closes and there is no place to put on their show. But it all works out in the end. Very good acting, singing and tap dancing. A fun play at the Gompertz theater.
Bowne’s Lab is currently featuring a thoughtful and amusing play by Brent Askari, a PersianAmerican actor and playwright. The play is about a self help book friend/author who shows up at a couple’s apartment. As they critique the book, everything goes terribly wrong.
The play is amusing and thoughtful. The performances by the 3 actors are excellent. Amanda Kristin Nichols is outstanding.
Most performances are well done here at FST. Their current offering is the 2015 play “The Outsider” by Paul Slade Smith.
This play is relevant to today’s political environment. A satirical look at unqualified candidates for political office who only answer questions with vague platitudes. If you like plays like Moliere’s “Tartuffe”, you may enjoy this very amusing farce.
The production and actors are excellent. Continues through August 25th.
Florida Studio Theater is now featuring the very funny and outlandish play about a “person eating plant” gone berserk and a sadistic dentist and his girlfriend. Little Shop of Horrors cast does an excellent job on this 2003 Broadway play based on several films starting in 1960. This is a must see running through...
Read moreWow... Wow! I don't even know what to say. I don't even know where to begin. Last night my girlfriend and I went to go see Network. We had front row seats which were absolutely incredible but that didn't really matter. The set was out of this world amazing. Now I've always loved theater but I'd never been to this theater. I've lived in Sarasota for 4 years and I was completely blown away upon walking into the theater and seeing this set. I was transformed onto the set of a network news show. I don't know who directed it or who choreographed people moving about the stage but it was so utterly beautiful like a dance in between scenes it was almost like watching a ballet on its own. The actors and actresses were beyond compared to anything I've ever seen and would literally hold their own against any stage performers across the United States. The usher, Madeline, was a joy and she explained to me a lot about the theater and their expansion plans. The seats were comfortable the theater was a comfortable temperature The sound quality was amazing. Being a partially disabled vet with hearing loss I was really thankful about that sound quality. It was jaw dropping to say the least. Whether you are a first-timer or you've been to every theater in the country and other countries this is the one you want to become a member to and support amazing theater. I will give big shout outs to Stu and Becca Boyd but the cast the crew and those unseen behind the scenes I want to say from the bottom of my heart thank you so much because it had been a long time since I had seen such a professional jaw-dropping heart pounding moving first rate production. This is the best bang for the buck on the southwest coast. Congratulations and thank you from the bottom of my heart. I look forward to each and every production...
Read moreLast weekend my husband and I decided to go for our anniversary to the comedy club. I ordered the tickets and we went to the theater. Well, because of the construction we walked around the corner, about a block to the place they were holding the comedy club until construction was done. No big deal. When we got our tickets though, I was disappointed because we got balcony, against the wall. There were tables along the balcony and we couldn't really see the comedians. So we figured we would go again the next weekend and get those table seats and have another night out. We were excited and got the best table in the middle of the balcony and had the best waitress.Everything was going great UNTIL we seen how people who picked the wall seat, got offered a table off the balcony , twice. AND then at intermission, came a group of 10 kids who were loud and obnoxious and took those empty seats at the wall of the balcony. They were drinking and running around and loud. They were so ridiculous my husband and I left. On our way out I asked our waitress if they just give seats away at intermission and she replied'' : No those are interns they get comp tickets''. And I told her, we were leaving because they were ridiculous... PLUS friends of theirs before intermission who had wall seats were towering over other guests and were loud and rude and I could see the people who paid for tickets for those tables were getting annoyed. The waitress asked some John guy to ask those kids to be quiet and I got into the elevator. That same guy got into the elevator with me and did not say a word. Needless to say, We WILL NOT...
