I recently visited Bombay Chopsticks by India House, a restaurant known for its Indian amalgamation cuisine. While the experience had its ups and downs, overall, I would not choose to dine there again.

Upon arrival, we were initially seated at a table near the entrance, but we requested to be moved inside, which they accommodated after debuting for few times.

We began with the Hot and Sour Soup, which unfortunately did not meet our expectations. It was excessively oily and fell short on taste. The same feedback applied to the Manchow Soup we ordered. Surprisingly, the fried Chow Mein was not included in the soup which is an integral part and had to be ordered separately.

Moving on to the appetizers, we tried the Vegetable Lollypop. It was disappointingly bland, and while the outer layer was crisp, the inside was uncooked, resembling a salad rather than a cooked dish. The Vegetable Steamed Momos lacked any spices and tasted plain. Only the accompanying Schezwan chutney added some flavor.

In the main course, we opted for the Bombay Chopsticks Fried Hakka Noodles and Fried Rice. Both dishes were dry and lacked any sauce or moisture. This was unexpected in a restaurant specializing in Indian amalgamation cuisine. To compensate for the dryness, we had to order another dish, Vegetable Balls in Manchurian Sauce. However, even that turned out to be bland and tasteless. Despite this, we went over our intended limit for dinner in terms of both quantity and cost.

To salvage the experience, we ordered the Sahi Paneer, an Indian dish, which was comparatively good when compared to the previous dishes.

Finally, when the bill arrived, we noticed that they had already included an 18% service charge, despite one of our party members being a child.

All things considered, I won't be returning to Bombay Chopsticks. Perhaps our choice of dishes was not the best, or maybe it was just an off day for the restaurant. Either way, there are plenty of other restaurant options available, and I would prefer to explore...

Had a horrible experience with this restaurant. Placed a carry out order and on Valentine’s Day, when opened the food upon getting home noticed we didn’t have enough rice for all the entrees we ordered. Ignored that part and thought they might have forgotten to pack another box of rice. Then opened the entrees (chicken Szechuan, hot and garlic chicken) the gravy was literally water and the oil was floating on top. Called the restaurant to speak with the manager and explained my situation. To which the manager said to us our “chef can never mess up the food” and we can’t give you a refund, exchange for another entree, can not deliver the food to you, can not wait for us to pick up on a separate day since we were already home for the night. Anything we were saying manager kept saying NO and basically calling us liars. The only option he gave us was to drive back the same exact night and pick up our entree, and to bring back the entree that they messed up which at that point was in my trash. Explained to the manager that we have kids and this spoiled our family dinner and we can not drive 35 mins again. He left is no choice but to drive back. So sending someone else to pick up our food the manager wouldn’t give the food to someone else until I called back, and to which he said I was “waiting for you and I had to personal get it” Like what?!!! I NEVER IN MY ENTIRE LIFE HAD TO EXPERIENCE SUCH BATTLE TO RECEIVE AN ENTREE THAT A RESTAURANT MESSED UP. Lost all my appetite didn’t even eat the food! Absolutely unacceptable, unprofessional, disgusting and ignorant!! I have been here multiple times and had major events here but will never return back for such cheaply run management. There are so many better place that will give you amazing food and amazing customer...

Before getting into any details - KUDOS TO ARGENTINA! (Our server) She's probably the most professional and courteous server working there! She made this whole experience waaay better. I was so excited about trying this place out. The place looked apparently classy although when we got to our booth, we noticed that the leather from the seats was coming off completely but still, the place looked pretty decent and clean. They have an extensive menu which offers a vast variety of dishes...we tried three main dishes and one appetizer. We ordered the chicken breast fillet with exotic veggies, american chop suey and kung pao chicken with peanuts. The "fillet" in chicken breast fillet were bland, tasteless strips of chicken which literally seemed like they boiled in some water and presented. The "exotic veggies" which are signature in Chinese cuisine for their crispness were completely overcooked, nearly mush. The chop suey tasted nothing more than fried noodles in tomato sauce. The kung pao was the only thing that had somewhat taste to my liking. Seriously man. If you are charging arms and legs from your customers, at least pay a little attention to quality. I know their food looks like too much in quantity but what good is it if we can't enjoy it? Even if they try to justify themselves by saying that this is the "indian" touch to Chinese cuisine, I would have to tell them that they are terribly wrong as it tastes really bad. At least to me.

Other than that, we were very honest with Argentina about how we did not enjoy the food at all and she was SO SWEET, she got us two scoops of mango ice-cream which she said were on her to make it up a little bit. Seriously, 5...

I recently dined at Bombay Chopsticks in Hoffman Estates and had an experience with mixed feelings. On the positive side, the food and service were exceptional. The dishes were flavorful and beautifully presented, and the staff was attentive and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and it was clear why this restaurant has earned such a good reputation. However, my 5-star review drops to 2 stars because of an unexpected charge. We were hit with a 3% credit card fee, something I have never encountered at a restaurant before. Typically, restaurants absorb these fees, especially when customers are spending a substantial amount. Our bill totaled $400 for a meal for six people, indicating we ordered quite a bit because the food was that good. Most diners might overlook this additional charge when they receive their bill, but I felt it was important to highlight this as it left a sour taste after an otherwise great experience. You wouldn't expect a restaurant of this caliber to nickel and dime their customers instead of focusing on creating a great dining experience. Are they moving in that direction? It's a discouragement and a disappointment, especially as a regular patron. Sadly, this fee makes me reconsider returning to Bombay Chopsticks despite the excellent food and service.
