This place is a hidden gem.... literally. Well, not literally a gem, but literally hidden. GPS told me to make a right, where all I saw was a Nissan dealership. Nope, and instead I ended up circling around. But sure, enough, make a right when the GPS tells you too. Ignore that the car dealership is there, and pay attention to the fact there's a giant sign letting you know Vogelei Park is there.
We had a barbecue at one of the seating areas with a roof and it was OK. The engineers who designed and created the shelter's roof apparently didn't like the sunrise, as the way it was angled, the unusual early June 90-degree heat and sun shone right on us during the early evening. After it got dark, the shelter had lights that illuminated, which was a bummer. Overall though, it's a great place to consider for a BBQ.

Read moreThis park is ideal for a picnic, and for small and older kids (up to 10 years old) to enjoy running around on the playground and playing in the water fountain. It belongs to the Hoffman Estate Park District, so you have to call them to get details about doing an even there. I did an end of the year get-together for my daughter and a few friends and they had a blast running about at the playground, playing with water blasters and eating pizza under...
Read moreThis is a bit of a hidden gem. There is a large, lit up sign indicating that this is Vogelei Park but you can't really see the park from the street as it's mostly surrounded by trees and the entrance is a narrow, easy-to-miss road only accessible going westbound on 72. Once you do find it there's ample parking, a great playground, a splash pad, a sheltered area with tables and benches, open areas, and a pond, all encircled by a scenic walking path. It's a perfect...
