Heard a few friends talking about this place last week, we were in the area so we stopped by.
Food quality: Paneer Makhni - gravy tasted a bit strange, and a lot of oil floating in the dish. It was ok.
Veg Biryani - more like fried rice, rice and veggies were dry. not a great biryani. it also doesn’t come with raita (the dish is $13, so you have to order a $2 raita separately which was forgotten with my order, and then when it came it was hardly any. you can eat like 6-8 spoons of food with the raita).
Hakka Noodles Veg - these were hands down the best dish out of all. recommend.
Samosa - not bad, but seemed like a frozen one that was warmed / fried up.
Garlic naan - first pieces we got, hard / crisp (naan isn’t supposed to be hard crisp). asked for a different batch, got 3 small pieces in replacement that seemed more fresh. either old pieces warmed up in a toaster or frozen naan that were warmed up.
tandoori chicken - not really tandoori. chicken was warmed up and had some spicy sauce put over it (so it actually is not tandoori chicken, what they served was more like chicken wings. my son liked it.
mocktails - not good, were not able to drink it.
service: everyone was nice - so that was really appreciated. they just opened so they are working out all the kinks, but to get my complete order it took a full hour. I had to constantly (at least 6 times) follow up on parts of my order - and I had to interrupt the people working there because the place was filled with what seemed to be friends and family vs real customers. once they had time to pay attention they were really good, but the overall experience of going to a brand new food place was not great.
Atmosphere: it’s a small space so wouldn’t recommend going with a big family, it’s a nice spot for 2-4 people. Because almost everyone there today seemed to be of relation or friends to the owners / operators / managers it was extra noisy and there were people standing at random places throughout the place. It also made it difficult to actually talk to the people working there.
I think if you stick to their simple dishes (noodles, or burgers) you’ll be fine. If you’re looking for proper indian food, i would avoid this place for now until they work through service and food...
Read moreWent to visit this place over the weekend with family. As many reviews suggested and I echo the same thing, Tabla in Schaumburg is not for larger family or multiple families to sit down and eat together. A family of 4 would be more than enough to fill about 1/8th of the space when compared with other fast food indian places. Again, this is not a sit down restaurant. I had ordered quite a few food items Paneer butter Masala with Garlic Naan- if you like a soft Naan than you don't want to order at Tabla since the Qty and size is not consistent with each order plus it's very dry and hard. Curry was OK, not spicy or salty at all. Hakka Noodles- Tasted very good. We had ordered with Paneer. MAKE YOUR OWN BOWL- We had ordered two of them with Biryani but honestly was disappointed with overall taste of the finished item. Makhni sauce was better than home style sauce but at the same time both of them were very dry. Bhalla Papdi Chaat- nothing different than other places. Melt burger with Masala fries- We had ordered two of them as well. the patty felt like the frozen morning star one, wat not home made for sure. Masala fries was good. Mocktails- Kalakhatta had more flavor of sprite/lime soda than Kalakhatta. Basil Lychee one was ok, for some reason both of them had a salty taste too it as well. I would highly recommend checking for the accuracy of the order since it is very easy for your veg order to get mixed up with non veg order and vice versa which happened to us, which was corrected by the staff members, so I appreciate that part for sure. I had heard the name Tabla from Florida quite a bit but not sure if it is living up to the expectation or hype yet. We wanted to try this place once, I am glad that we did and found out that we better stick with our regular places that we have been going for many years for indian street food.
While the menu offers a lot of choices, the place will still have to work very hard specially in terms of food quality to be at where some of the competitors already are.
One thing to emphasize here is that they have a very friendly staff 😀.
A 2.5 out...
Read moreIt was our first visit there. We were excited about this new place. My friend and I reached there for early dinner at 5.30. I was not hungry, but she was hungry and excited about what she had heard. All went to drain. The server was arrogant. We were the only people there, and they made it so unwelcoming. After ordering, the server bought the food, without silverware or anything, asked us to get our own silverware, water pitcher and cups, which is fine if the restaurant is crowded, but there was no one there other than us, and we were excited to try thing there. My friend too 2 bites and on the third, she found a fly scooping out of the bowl. This was disgusting. The server still did not look apologetic, said I’ll take this back, but what can we do about fly. Really? You can’t keep fly out of your kitchen? Can not keep it from entering food? You claim you just prepared it… how can you not see it if you are just assembling it. On top, what can we do about fly in food - is not acceptable answer. Clearly kitchen is contaminated with something rotten for the fly to be in there, and be served on food. I am never stepping in there. Top it with the attitude… oh my world! You can keep it - your food and your...
