Nearra's Pizzeria — Restaurant in Scranton

EDIT: I'm editing this review 4 years after the initial post. This place has gone steadily downhill for the last 6 months. Whoever left the staff took all of the heart and care that was left in this place. Food is often disappointing now service is subpar to downright rude. It's a real shame.

Food is good, but they will try to swindle you.

I've been ordering from Nearra's for at least 5 years. The food is great. Pizza is a delicious NY style pie. French fries are hot and crispy. However, on items like fries and other appetizers they will scrimp. Over the phone they will tell you they only offer one size order of fries and deliver a hanfull in a large box. Today I ordered two so that I could have enough for everyone. They put one order two small boxes. Called them and asked if there was a mix up and they just denied it. I'm very annoyed at paying around $8 for less than a full basket of fries. They aren't the cheapest pizza place, so why the shenanigans? Good food. But, hey they might...

I enjoyed the atmosphere. Small and comfortable, yet adequate space for a moderate sized party, which is exactly what was going on on the other side of the restaurant while I ate. Something about the setup of the pizzeria (the tables and the decor) made me still feel like I had enough privacy to enjoy my meal and conversation with the person I was dining with. So why only 3 stars you may wonder... I expected better food, and the pizza was good but not special like the atmosphere and great service I recieved. Delivery would have been comparable, and I just think it should have been better because everything else suggested it would be. Also the pricing was very reasonable so no worries for the wallet. Overall I would recommend this restaurant for small, informal groups to meet for a decent meal at a good price in a nice dining environment. I wouldn't take a date or a potential business partner there for lunch, but i would take the little league team there after...

This place is very cute. Was clean and well laid out. The staff seemed friendly and attentive for the most part.

The food however. ...

My husband ordered the Stromboli. He said it was good other than the onions. There was way to many. Almost 2 large onions worth and huge chunks of them. Keep in mind the Stromboli is maybe 8 in long. So essentially in my mind an onion Stromboli with a drop of everything else.

I ordered the Sweetie Pie as I am really into the sweet sauce right now. It came put together table soupy on top and what exactly was that barf looking cheese? It even tasted like barf. I took 2 bites and threw the rest away. Upon reading other reviews , it's American cheese? Who puts American cheese on their puzzas, other then the at home in a hurry, no other cheese available pizza snack on English muffins maybe! Absolutely disgusting.

Those are the only two items we had so we have no idea how anything else on the menu tasted but we won't be going back...
