Moving can always be a stressful moment in life for a college student. A new town, a new school, a new life...there is a lot to process and become acclimated toward. It helps if you can find a hangout that is a bridge. Zachary transferred to Marywood University and he scoped out the town for a good coffee shop for him to connect with. He found Zummo's, and WOW, what a find it was.
The place is jammed with unbelievable food. Fresh muffins, quiches, salads and sandwiches. The folks at our table had grilled turkey and cheese with bacon, signature salads with fruit and nuts, and THE BEST CHICKEN SALAD SANDWICHES around on some great whole grain pita. Of course the baked and no baked snacks / sweets abounded as well. And then, the espresso. Enough said.
The place is clean and feels warm and inviting. The counter and shop decor are a blend of old world cafe, progressive bakery, and shop for coffee lovers and aficianados - with all of the salable accoutrement you could desire for your home. It is peppered with old photos of the site back in the day when it was a shoe repair shop owned by two brothers.
The micro-roasted coffees are wonderful. They use a fine clover brewing process. And, you can even grab beans or ground roasts to take with you as well as fan-ware and mugs. They believe in making things fresh and not skimping on quality. Portions are monstrous and the freshness is noticeably impeccable.
I loved the place, the food, the feel. I wish I lived in town so I could try out the soups, and fare everyday. It'll just have to be good enough to stalk the place when visiting Zachary at Marywood University. AWESOME PLACE FOLKS. VISIT IT! Its at 916 Marion Street, Scranton, PA.
Having it soooo close, it is really easy to get up on a day off and meet Zachary at Zummo's for breakfast and a fine brew.
GOOD Coffee is a communal thing.

Read moreI had an odd experience today here. My friend who is disabled and I went in for drinks. We went in the side entrance with the ramp no issues. After our drinks was ordered we went to leave out the same door and it was locked. My friend isn't visibly disabled. She has good days and bad days where she needs her cane. Regardless she still can't do stairs well. I had to move a table to unlock the double doors so she could get out and down the ramp since the main door that leads to the ramps locks with a key. I told the staff someone locked the handicap door and they said they locked it for a private event. I asked if they could post a sign to let people know because I didn't want it to happen to someone else. It's a long ramp and inconvenient but at least they gave something unlikr other places. It's unacceptable that if they have a private event all handicap accessibility is removed. Not every disabled person has someone able with them to move tables or advocate for them. I obviously don't think this was malicious just another example of the lack of awareness and ignorance to handicapped individuals.
Overall store review: Relatively quick on good days, great food and good drinks. I definitely prefer none coffee drinks and they always have something available. So far I've found something yummy for every season. My husband thinks it's overpriced since it's not even their own blend it's just electric city but like... We love a little ✨treat✨ so what he doesnt know won't hurt him 😉. Normally we get takeout and service is what it is put your order in walk to the pick up area get your drinks grab a cup carrier if needed and outty. Sometimes it's a long wait other times it's in and out. Most of my experience is...
Read moreBest coffee shop outside of downtown. Ample street parking, but be prepared to combat the church crowd next door if you're there around service times on Sunday. Ample interior space with individual tables, makes it a great work spot. Music can be ran a little loud at times, and conversation acoustics are bad so bring headphones if you need quiet. Coffee is fresh and the food selection rotates and is good. They sell coffee beans from the local roaster, Electric City Roasting, but I don't understand how a local roaster can have beans on the shelf with a 1+month old roast date. Check the date of the bag before you buy, they can vary in freshness by several weeks. Only negative is the ordering experience / interaction with the staff. Sometimes they're incredibly friendly, other times you feel like you're the one responsible for them waking up on the wrong side of the bed. Sometimes you place your order at the pastry glass, sometimes you place your order at the register. Sometimes the person who takes your order makes your order. Sometimes the person who takes your order doesn't make it, and they either have to relay it to others, or you end up having to repeat it, or parts of your order lag behind or are forgotten and have to be reminded. Once the parts of your order are ready, they simply yell out what it is, not who's it is, so you get to the enjoy the awkward "Is that your bagel with cream cheese or is it mine?" with fellow customers. Overall its a great spot with good food and coffee, the front counter experience just really...
